USA South Athletes of the Week - Dec. 4, 2017

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Patjo Twagirayezu, Covenant - The senior forward from Kigali, Rwanda averaged 26.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists per game as the Scots posted a 2-0 record last week versus USA South competition. In an 89-85 win over LaGrange, Twagirayezu totaled 22 points, nine rebounds and one steal. In a 93-64 victory over Berea, Twagirayezu scored 30 points with six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Will Crumly, Covenant - The freshman forward from Marietta, Georgia averaged 13.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game as the Scots posted a 2-0 record last week versus USA South competition. In an 89-85 win over LaGrange, Crumly totaled six points, three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal. In a 93-64 victory over Berea, Crumly scored a career-high 20 points with eight rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Also Nominated: Raymond Bullock III, Averett; Jordan Foote, Piedmont; Damon McDowell, N.C. Wesleyan; JR Sanders, Maryville.

 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Mikayla Ray, William Peace - The Asheville, North Carolina sophomore forward averaged a double-double of 21.5 points and 14.0 rebounds to go along with 4.5 steals and 3.5 assists per game as the Pacers posted a 1-1 record last week. In an 87-63 loss to Lynchburg, Ray totaled 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and one block. In a 79-69 victory over USA South foe Salem, Ray posted a double-double with career highs of 31 points and 21 rebounds. The 21 rebounds tied a single-game program record. She also added five steals and three assists in the win. Also Nominated: Samm Chandler, Averett; Juliette Harp, Huntingdon; Rachel Hawn, Maryville; Lauren Johnson, LaGrange; Katie Lewis, Greensboro; Zarkia Mattox, Ferrum; Kechae Parker, N.C. Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Kayla Goldsmith, Methodist - The Manning, South Carolina freshman forward averaged 9.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.0 blocks per game as the Monarchs posted a 1-2 record last week. In a 55-41 loss at Hollins, Goldsmith totaled two points, ten rebounds and two blocks. In an 85-63 victory over USA South foe Mary Baldwin, Goldsmith posted a double-double of 14 points and ten rebounds with three steals and one assist. Finally, in a 65-58 loss to USA South rival Ferrum, Goldsmith notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to go along with four steals, one assist and one block. Also Nominated: Brianna Parmelee, Averett; Javana Jones, N.C. Wesleyan; Taylor Robinson, Covenant; Kimberly Schuh, Meredith.
