Methodist Women's Soccer Downed in NCAA Tournament

ABILENE, Texas -- The Methodist women's soccer team fell 3-1 to No. 3 Hardin-Simmons in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Monarchs finish their season with a 9-11 overall record, while the Cowgirls improve to 20-0 on the season. HSU will take on Trinity tomorrow afternoon in the second round of action.
 
In the first half, the Cowgirls scored early in the fourth minute as Morgan McAdams recorded her second goal of the season with assists from Tori Waters and Kami Jones. Nine minutes later, HSU scored again as Kirsten Parrish picked up her 13th goal of the season after taking a pass from Josey Myers. The 2-0 lead held until halftime.
 
Haley Bowles started the second half with a goal at the 46:34 mark. Cheyenne Ferrin sent a corner kick into the box that was misplayed and allowed Bowles to register her second goal of the year, 2-1. HSU extended its lead to 3-1 in the 80th minute as Kenne Kessler posted her 36th goal of the season, which leads the nation.
 
The Cowgirls outshot MU 25-7, while holding a 15-4 edge in corner kicks.
 
Goalkeeper Emily Benton made six saves in all 90 minutes, while Caitlin Christiansen stopped three shots.
