RALEIGH, N.C. -- William Peace University Athletics is pleased to announce Reid Clewis as the University's new Head Women's Soccer Coach. Clewis joins the Pacers with experience in various levels of collegiate, high school and club women's soccer.
WPU Athletic Director, Kevin Daniels, shared, "I'm very excited to have Reid come on board. He brings with him a wealth of sport knowledge from a very similar small school. His knowledge of this region will no doubt help William Peace's recruiting efforts. I'm excited to see what changes will come to our women's soccer program and the growth our women will experience."
Clewis began his coaching career, while still an undergraduate at Mt. Olive University, at Spring Creek High School as the Head Women's Varsity Soccer Coach in 2006. In March of 2007, Clewis became the Interim Head Women's Soccer Coach at Mt. Olive. From the fall of 2008 to 2010 Clewis worked as the Fayetteville Soccer Club Technical Director of Camps and Clinics, and also served as the Head Coach for the Girls U11-U18 teams. During this time period, Clewis also served as the Assistant Women's Soccer Coach at Mt. Olive from 2006-2010.
Clewis progressed to Wilmington, NC to work as the Assistant Director of Player Development, Camp Director, Adult Representative, Head Coach for the Boys U-12 to U-17 teams, and Head Coach for the Girls U-17 team at the Cape Fear Soccer Club from 2011-2012. From May of 2012 to 2014, Clewis took his coaching to Goldsboro, NC as the Director of Coaching and the Head Coach of the 2000 Boys Orange Team at the Wayne County United Soccer Club.
Clewis would return to the Trojan sidelines in 2012 as the Assistant Women's Soccer Coach until being named the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Mt. Olive in 2015.
Clewis has been a Head Coach with the North Carolina Olympic Development Program since 2012, as well as a Head Coach for the 00 Boys Premier team with the Fayetteville Soccer Club since 2016.
"During our hiring process Reid Clewis continuously demonstrated his ability to recruit the state of North Carolina and the region. We had an outstanding pool of candidates for our women's soccer position, Reid rose to the top in every phase of our search," shared Phil Rowe, Executive Director of Athletic Strategy and Special Projects. "Reid made it clear to us that he wanted the opportunity to build our women's soccer program and he is as excited to join us as we are to have him lead our women's soccer program. We were looking for someone who can hit the ground running and bring in an exciting recruiting class for the fall of 2018. Reid's passion and leadership will raise the level of our women's soccer program on and off the pitch."
"I'd like to say thank you to Phil Rowe and Kevin Daniels for putting their faith in me to lead the William Peace women's soccer program. The welcoming atmosphere on campus made it quickly evident that this is a wonderful place to be," expressed Clewis.
In his free time Coach Clewis enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family. Originally from Wilmington, NC, he now lives in Linden, NC with his wife Amber, two stepdaughters Kaley and Megan Jacobs, and son Landon Clewis.
