Jaumonee Byrd, Maryville - The sophomore center from Douglasville, Georgia averaged a double-double of 24.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest as the Scots compiled a 2-0 record last week at the Don Lane Classic. In a 109-102 win over Capital, Byrd 27 points, eight rebounds, one assist and one block. In an 80-74 victory over Transylvania, Byrd notched a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds to go along with one assist and one block. Mackenzie Puckett, Maryville - The sophomore guard from Franklin, Tennessee averaged a double-double of 26.0 points and 13.0 rebounds per contest as the Scots compiled a 2-0 record last week. She also averaged 5.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks in the two games. In an 80-71 win at Roanoke, Puckett totaled 24 points, 16 rebounds, five assists and one block. In a 72-47 victory over Midway, Puckett scored 28 points, grabbed ten rebounds, dished out five assists, collected two steals and blocked one shot. Brian Edwards, Piedmont - The Gillsville, Georgia freshman guard averaged 19.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in an 0-2 week for the Lions. In a 98-94 loss to Transylvania, Edwards scored 31 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out one assist and collected one steal. In a 76-58 loss to Capital, Edwards totaled eight points and one rebound. Also Nominated: D.J. Weaver, N.C. Wesleyan; Charles Bryant, Averett.
Rookie of the Week*
Gabby Arencibia, Piedmont - The Hiwassee, Georgia freshman guard averaged 13.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals per contest as the Lions posted a 2-0 record over the past two weeks. In an 89-39 win over Toccoa Falls, Arencibia totaled a team high 14 points to go along with three rebounds, two assists and one steal. In an 87-70 victory over Birmingham Southern, Arencibia totaled 12 points, three assists, two rebounds, one steal and one block. Also Nominated: Brianna Taylor, Averett.
