USA South Athletes of the Week - Jan. 12, 2015

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Justin Vallejo, Piedmont - The freshman forward from Daytona Beach, Florida averaged a double-double of 16.0 points and 10.5 rebounds to go along with 1.5 assists per contest in a 2-0 week for the Lions. In a 54-52 victory over Sewanee, Vallejo tallied two of his 15 points with 1.7 seconds remaining in the contest which proved to be the game-winning basket. He also added eight rebounds and one assist in the victory. In a 70-68 win over USA South foe William Peace, Vallejo notched a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds to go along with two assists, one steal and one block. Also Nominated: Trevor West, Averett; T.J. Gill, Methodist; Simeon Howard, Greensboro.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week-
Jacole Hairston, Ferrum - The Martinsville, Virginia senior guard scored 29 points to lead the Panthers to a 74-68 victory over USA South rival Averett in the team's only contest last week. Hairston also added one rebound, one assist and one steal in the win. Also Nominated: Brianna Barrett, Piedmont; Jessica Myers, Averett; Jessi Hayes, Meredith; Derrica Jones, William Peace; Jalisia Campbell, Methodist; Tiffani Stephens, Greensboro.

Dakota Sullens, Piedmont - The Dahlonega, Georgia freshman post player tallied her first career double-double in a 63-56 victory over USA South foe William Peace in the team's only contest last week. Sullens tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three steals, one assist and one block. Also Nominated: Zarkia Mattox, Ferrum; Jonna Koski, Averett.
