USA South Athletes of the Week - Nov. 24, 2014

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Chris Thomas, William Peace - The junior forward from Cary, North Carolina averaged a double-double of 24.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest in a 2-0 week for the Pacers. He also added 1.5 blocks per game last week. In a 90-78 victory over Columbia International, Thomas notched a double-double of 30 points and 13 rebounds to go along with two blocks, one assist and one steal. The 30 points established a new school record for single-game scoring. In an 84-69 win over Emory & Henry, Thomas totaled 19 points, seven rebounds and one block. Also Nominated: Jamal Pullen, Ferrum; Eric Dortch-Jones, N.C. Wesleyan; Nick Mitchell, LaGrange; Bradley Robinson, Averett; Oscar Butler, Maryville; Chase England, Piedmont; T.J. Gill, Methodist.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Ayanna Pegues, Methodist - The Raeford, North Carolina junior forward averaged 17.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per contest despite the Monarchs posting an 0-2 record last week. In an 85-57 loss to Randolph-Macon, Pegues totaled eight points, three rebounds, two blocks and one steal. In an 83-81 loss to Bridgewater, Pegues notched a double-double of 27 points and 13 rebounds with two blocks, one assist and one steal. Also Nominated: Jessica Myers, Averett; Alex Bond, Maryville.

 

Rookies of the Week

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Adrian Moore, N.C. Wesleyan - The Plymouth, North Carolina freshman guard helped the Bishops to a 2-1 record last week by averaging 9.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.7 assists per contest. In a 79-51 win over Roanoke Bible, Moore tallied 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. In a 59-56 loss to Hampden-Sydney, Moore was held scoreless with five rebounds. Finally, in a 75-65 victory over Shenandoah, Moore totaled a career-high 16 points with four rebounds, four steals and two assists. Also Nominated: James Contreras, Jr.

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Lauren Johnson, LaGrange - The Canton, Georgia freshman helped the Panthers to a 2-0 record last week by averaging 15.0 points, 3.0 steals, 1.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game. In a 62-39 victory over Agnes Scott, Johnson tallied 11 points, four steals, one rebound and one assist. In a 56-50 win over Pensacola Christian, Johnson totaled 19 points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist. Also Nominated: Kechae Parker, N.C. Wesleyan; Samm Chandler, Averett; Rachel Hawn, Maryville.
