USA South Athletes of the Week - Dec. 15, 2014

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Cody Stephens, Averett - The senior forward from Aiken, South Carolina averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks off the bench per contest in a 2-0 week for the Cougars. In a 69-62 win at Washington & Lee, Stephens totaled 21 points, four rebounds and three blocks. In a 69-66 victory at Randolph, Stephens hit a game-winning three-pointer with 2.1 seconds remaining. For the game, Stevens contributed 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. Also Nominated: Devan Gregory, Greensboro; Spencer Shoffner, Maryville; D.J. Weaver, N.C. Wesleyan; Tabias Hilliard, Methodist.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Mackenzie Puckett, Maryville - The Franklin, Tennessee junior guard led the Scots to a 73-39 win over Birmingham Southern in the team's only contest last week. Puckett scored 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out three assists, collected three steals and blocked three shots in the victory. Also Nominated: Jessi Hayes, Meredith; Alexis Sollars, Averett; Ayanna Pegues, Methodist.

 

Rookies of the Week

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
James Contreras, Jr., Averett - The Virginia Beach, Virginia freshman guard averaged 3.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals per contest in a 2-0 week for the Cougars. In a 69-62 win at Washington & Lee, Stevens, Contreras totaled four points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist. In a 69-66 victory at Randolph, Contreras contributed two points and five rebounds. Also Nominated: Joseph Gatling, Greensboro.

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Jonna Koski, Averett - The Jyvaskyla, Finland freshman center led the Cougars to a 65-62 win over USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan in the team's only contest last week. Koski scored a career-high 16 points with seven rebounds in the victory. Also Nominated: Lauren Biliter, Maryville; KeChae Parker, N.C. Wesleyan.
