USA South Athletes of the Week - Dec. 21, 2015



Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Trae Gaines, Piedmont - The junior guard from Dewy Rose, Georgia averaged 19.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 blocks per game as the Lions posted a 2-1 record last week. In a 74-72 win over Berry, Gaines tallied 21 points, four rebounds, five assists and one block. The one block came with less than ten seconds remaining and allowed Piedmont to win the game at the buzzer. In an 84-72 victory over Sewanee, Gaines posted 17 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Finally, in a 69-65 loss at Division-I Presbyterian, Gaines scored 20 points, grabbed four rebounds and blocked four shots. Also Nominated: Simeon Howard, Greensboro; Marvin Wilson, Ferrum; Carter Jones, Averett; John Edwards, N.C. Wesleyan; Jay Bowyer, Maryville; Mark Wagner, LaGrange.

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
KeAndre' Robinson, Ferrum - The Richmond, Virginia freshman forward averaged a double-double of 13.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game as the Panthers posted a 2-0 record last week. In an 84-75 win over Southern Virginia, Robinson posted a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds to go along with one assist. In a 70-57 victory over Shenandoah, Robinson notched a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds with one block. Also Nominated: Austin DeLucia, Averett; Isaiah Alston, N.C. Wesleyan; Dakota King, William Peace; Colt Nokes, Maryville.
