USA South Athletes of the Week - Nov. 13, 2017



Football Offensive Player of the Week
Vic Jerald, Huntingdon - The senior running back from Dolomite, Alabama accumulated 163 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-17 win over USA South rival LaGrange last week. Jerald carried the ball 26 times for 150 yards and two scores. He also caught a 13-yard pass which resulted in a touchdown. Also Nominated: Zack Clifford, Ferrum; Trey Lancaster, N.C. Wesleyan; Christian Miles, Averett.

Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
Brandon Thompson, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman quarterback from Union, South Carolina accumulated 270 yards of total offense and two touchdowns in a 38-35 loss to USA South foe Methodist last week. Thompson was 19-of-32 passing for 233 yards and one touchdown. He also carried the ball four times for 37 yards and one touchdown. Also Nominated: Dre Davis, Ferrum; Isaiah Grice, Averett.

Football Defensive Player of the Week 
Nathaniel Lake, Averett 
- The Culpeper, Virginia senior linebacker totaled four solo tackles, grabbed two interceptions and scored one touchdown in a 54-0 victory over USA South foe Greensboro last week. One of Lake's four tackles went for a loss of three yards while his interception was returned 32 yards for the score. Also Nominated: Antonio Johnson, N.C. Wesleyan; Montel Lee, Ferrum; Brandon Williams, Huntingdon.

Football Defensive Rookie of the Week
Keyon Washington, N.C. Wesleyan - The defensive back from Jacksonville, Florida totaled five tackles in a 38-35 loss to USA South foe Methodist last week. Washington had four solo tackles and one assisted take down in the loss. Also Nominated: Nicholas Mintz, Averett.

Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Cole Westberry, Averett - The sophomore place kicker and punter from Youngsville, North Carolina accounted for 12 points as he hit two field goals and six extra points in a 54-0 victory over USA South rival Greensboro last week. Westberry was a perfect 2-for-2 on field goal attempts hitting from 45 and 28 yards. He also averaged 42.0 yards per punt with two landing inside the 20 yard line. Also Nominated: Chase Young, Huntingdon.
