Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Justin Vallejo, Piedmont - The senior forward from Daytona Beach, Florida averaged 20.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game as the Lions posted a 3-0 record last week versus USA South members, all on the road. In an 90-67 win over Brevard, Vallejo totaled 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block. In a 74-68 victory over Greensboro, Vallejo posted ten points, three rebounds and one steal. Finally, in a 99-81 victory over Pfeiffer, Vallejo tallied a double-double of 33 points and ten rebounds with one assist and one block. Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Torell Carter, Berea - The freshman guard from Whitesburg, Kentucky averaged 23.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game as the Mountaineers posted a 1-1 record last week. In an 118-103 win over Johnson University Tennessee, Carter posted 25 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. In an 82-62 loss to USA South foe N.C. Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Zarkia Mattox, Ferrum - The senior guard from Rocky Mount, Virginia averaged 28.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game as the Panthers posted a 3-0 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 71-57 win over Meredith, Mattox totaled 29 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. In a 64-43 victory over Methodist, Mattox notched 23 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and three assists. Finally, in an 83-65 win over N.C. Wesleyan, Mattox posted 33 points, eight rebounds, four assists and one steal. Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Cauy Duboise, Mary Baldwin - The freshman guard from Ramah, New Mexico averaged 15.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game as the Fighting Squirrels posted a 1-3 record versus USA South competition last week. In two losses to Averett, Duboise averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.0 steals. In a 94-31 loss to N.C. Wesleyan, Duboise totaled 11 points, seven rebounds and one assist. Finally, in a 70-69 victory over Methodist, Duboise scored the game-winning basket with two seconds remaining in the game. In the win, which snapped a 101-game losing streak versus Conference opposition, Duboise notched a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds to go along with four assists and two steals.
