Men's Basketball Player of the Week
A.J. Frye, N.C. Wesleyan - The junior center from Wilmington, North Carolina averaged a double-double of 20.5 points and 12.0 rebounds to go along with 6.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game as the Bishops went Catholic University Holiday Tournament last week. In an 83-70 win over Babson, Frye posted a double-double of 16 points and ten rebounds with four assists and one steal. In a 91-65 victory over Medaille, Frye notched a double-double of 25 points and 14 rebounds to go along with eight assists and one steal. Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
B.J. Barker, Huntingdon - The freshman guard from Montgomery, Alabama averaged 13.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game as the Hawks posted a 2-1 record over the holiday break. In a 70-55 win over Birmingham Southern, Barker posted ten points, one rebound and one steal. In a 68-67 win over Alvernia, Barker totaled career-highs of 21 points and five rebounds, with two assists and one steal. Finally, in a 79-52 loss to nationally-ranked Christopher Newport, Barker contributed ten points, one rebound, one assist and one steal. Also Nominated: Justin Quick, Piedmont.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Brooke Carthon, Averett - The Atlanta, Georgia junior guard averaged 23.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game as the Cougars posted a 2-1 record over the holiday break. In a 66-64 win over Centre, Carthon posted 23 points, nine rebounds and two assists. In a 71-57 loss to Maryville, Carthon totaled 14 points, eight rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. Finally, in an 81-80 victory over Randolph, Carthon scored a career-high 33 points to go along with nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block. Also Nominated: T.I. Briana Holland, Agnes Scott - The Austell, Georgia first-year guard averaged 13.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game as the Scotties posted a 0-3 record over the holiday break. In a 54-46 loss to Berry, Holland posted nine points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal. In a 62-45 loss to North Park, Holland scored a career-high 23 points to go along with seven rebounds and two assists. Finally, in a 73-47 loss to Rhodes, Holland tallied eight points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal. Also Nominated: Camryn Lunsford, Averett; Brooke McCurdy, Maryville; Cydney Nichols, N.C.
