USA South Athletes of the Week - Jan. 28, 2019

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Torell Carter, Berea - The sophomore guard from Whitesburg, Kentucky averaged a double-double of 21.5 points and 12.5 rebounds to go along with 4.5 steals and 2.5 assists per game as the Mountaineers posted a 1-1 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 67-62 loss to Maryville, Carter notched a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds to go along with five steals and two assists. In an 83-82, overtime, win over Piedmont, Carter posted a double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds to go along with four steals, three assists and one block. Additionally, Carter scored Berea's final six points in overtime, including hitting a free throw with three seconds remaining, to give his team the victory. Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Isaiah Jones, Averett - The freshman forward from Wake Forest, North Carolina averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game as the Cougars posted a 1-1 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 95-79 loss to Pfeiffer, Jones posted 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals. In an 86-62 victory over Methodist, Jones totaled 21 points, five rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block. Also Nominated: Isaac Caudill, Berea; Nick Clifton, Maryville; Greyson Collins, Greensboro; John Ingram, William Peace; Justin Quick, Piedmont.

 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Bethanie Williams, Berea - The Newport, Tennessee junior guard averaged 24.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game as the Mountaineers posted a 2-0 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 72-69, overtime, win over Maryville, Williams notched a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds to go along with two assists. In a 76-49 victory over Piedmont, Williams totaled 27 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Also Nominated: Bethanie Williams, Berea; Brina Bentley, Pfeiffer; Brooke Carthon, Averett; T.I. Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Camryn Lunsford, Averett -
 The Apex, North Carolina freshman guard averaged 9.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game last week as the Cougars posted a 3-0 record against USA South competition. In an 86-62 win over Salem, Lunsford matched her career-high with 13 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists and one steal. In a 60-55 victory over Mary Baldwin, Lunsford totaled eight points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Finally, in a 72-70 win over Greensboro, Lunsford posted seven points, seven rebounds, four assists and one block. Also Nominated: Brooke Anders, Mary Baldwin; Hope Franklin, Piedmont; Nichelle Jeffries, Greensboro; Logan Lee, Methodist; Avery Lockwood, Brevard; Brooke McCurdy, Maryville; Cydney Nichols, N.C.
