USA South Athletes of the Week - Feb. 11, 2019

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Kyle Riddley, Pfeiffer - The senior forward from Charlotte, North Carolina averaged a double-double of 34.0 points and 11.0 rebounds to go along with 5.0 assists per game as the Falcons posted a 1-1 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 120-108 loss to William Peace, Riddley posted a double-double of 28 points and 11 rebounds with seven assists, one steal and one block. In a 139-131, double-overtime, win over N.C. Wesleyan, Riddley notched a double-double of 40 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three assists. Also Nominated: Dante Burden, Methodist; Julian Cameron, LaGrange; Montre' Cash, Averett; AJ Frye, N.C. Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
John Ingram, William Peace - The freshman forward from Charlotte, North Carolina averaged 14.5 points, 3.0 assists, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game as the Pacers posted a 2-0 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 120-108 win over Pfeiffer, Ingram totaled 18 points, a career-high six assists, one rebound and one block. In a 91-89 victory over Averett, Ingram posted 11 points, two rebounds, a career-high two blocks and one steal. Also Nominated: B.J. Barker, Huntingdon; KeShawn Lewis, Averett; JP McGhee, Maryville; Daevon Platt, Covenant; Justin Quick, Piedmont.

 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
T.I. Duncan, Huntingdon - The Talladega, Alabama senior guard averaged a double-double of 17.0 points and 10.0 rebounds to go along with 4.0 steals, 2.5 assists and 1.0 blocks per game as the Hawks posted a 2-0 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 65-43 win over Agnes Scott, Duncan totaled 13 points, seven rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block in just 20 minutes played. In a 73-66 victory over Berea, Duncan notched a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds to go along with five steals, three assists and one block. Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Demet Saygili, Mary Baldwin -
 The Iskenderun, Turkey freshman guard totaled 19 points, eight rebounds, five steals and one assist in the team's only contest of last week, a 63-58 victory over USA South rival Greensboro. Also Nominated: Avery Lockwood, Brevard; Camryn Lunsford, Averett; Brooke McCurdy, Maryville; Ry Whetstone, Huntingdon.

 

BASEBALL

Baseball Player of the Week
Tucker Criswell, Methodist - The junior infielder from Tallahassee, Florida went a combined 5-for-6 (.833) with a .900 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage in a season-opening, doubleheader, sweep of preseason nationally-ranked Roanoke. Criswell totaled three runs scored, three RBI, two walks and one stolen base in the two wins. Also Nominated: Tyler Burdette, Piedmont; Bradley Harris, Huntingdon; Andrew Lancaster, Averett; Tyler Moore, Covenant; Brad Pennington, N.C. Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Carden Mellown, Huntingdon - The junior from Hueytown, Alabama earned a victory over Berea, a 2-0 win, in his only appearance on the mound last week for the Hawks. Mellown tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed three hits, zero walks with eight strikeouts. Also Nominated: Andrew Cline, Covenant; David Craft, Piedmont; Jordan Davis, Maryville; Tristen Luck, Methodist; Matthew Scavotto, Brevard; Noah Shrock, N.C. Wesleyan; Mckinley Stanbery, William Peace; Ryan Traylor, Averett.

Baseball Rookie of the Week
Ryan Jones, Maryville - The freshman outfielder from Forsyth, Georgia went a combined 4-for-10 (.400) with a .538 on-base percentage and a .600 slugging percentage to go along with four RBI, three runs scored, two double and two walks as the Scots posted a 3-0 record last week. Jones' best performance came in a 17-7 win over Millsaps as he was 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored, one double and one walk. Also Nominated: Brett Kernodle, Covenant; Jason Maggs, Averett; Joe Ruth, LaGrange.

Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Matthew Scavotto, Brevard - The freshman from Charlotte, North Carolina picked up his first collegiate win in his first collegiate start, a 5-0 victory over William Peace in his only appearance on the mound for the Tornados last week. Scavotto tossed five scoreless innings and allowed two hits, two walks with five strikeouts. Also Nominated: Josh Adkins, Averett; Carter Ballstadt, Piedmont; Colton Clark, Huntingdon; DJ Cooper, Maryville.
