USA South Golf Athletes of the Week - March 20, 2019

Golfer of the Week
Stephen Shephard, Huntingdon - The senior from Niceville, Florida placed first out of 150 golfers at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational hosted by the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Georgia last week by shooting a 12-under par 204 which set a new NCAA-era program record for a three-round event. In the three-round event, Shephard shot a three under-par 69 in each of the first two rounds and finished with a six-under par 66 to help the Hawks to a second place team finish. Also Nominated: Austin Fisher, Brevard; Grady Anderson, N.C. Wesleyan; Larkin Gross, Methodist.

Golf Rookie of the Week
Frankie Schmitt, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Buenos Aires, Argentina has competed in two events over the past two weeks. At the Adidas Intercollegiate in Dataw Island, South Carolina, Schmitt finished tied for sixth out of 105 golfers by shooting a three-over par 219. In the three-round event, Schmitt opened with a one-over par 73, following with a two-over par 74 and finished with an even-par 72 to help the Battling Bishops to a third place team finish. At the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational hosted by the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Georgia last week Schmitt placed tied for 77th out of 150 golfers by shooting a 12-over par 228. In the three-round event, Schmitt opened with a seven-over par 79, following with a four-over par 76 and finished with a one over-par 73 to help the Battling Bishops to a 16th place team finish. Also Nominated: None.
