(FAYETTEVILLE,
N.C.) - The USA South Athletic
Conference has announced its 2012 All-Conference awards for
baseball. A total of 45 student-athletes have been named to the USA
South All-Conference teams. Ferrum College's Paul Jaglowski
collected Player of the Year honors, Methodist University's Chris
Perry earned Pitcher of the Year accolades, Greensboro College's
James Feldmann grabbed Rookie of the Year honors, Shenandoah
University's Matt Riegler picked up the Rookie Pitcher of the Year
award while Christopher Newport University's John Harvell collected
Coach of the Year honors. Also, the USA South recognized an
All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each
competing school.
All honors were determined by votes from the baseball coach at
each institution.
Jaglowski, a senior shortstop from Chesapeake, Virginia led
the league with 24 hits, a .471 batting average and a .518 on-base
percentage during Conference play. Overall,
Jaglowski currently owns a .402 batting average, a .458
on-base percentage and a .520 slugging percentage with 51
hits, 66 total bases and 13 stolen bases, all of which rank in the
top-ten of the USA South this season. Jaglowski also has
scored 27 runs and collected 22 RBI this spring as he earns his
fourth-career All-Conference honor this year as a first-team
shortstop. Jaglowski has collected two second-team honors and one
honorable mention accolade at Ferrum. Finally, he was named USA
South Player of the Week once this spring.
Perry, a junior starting pitcher from Cary, North Carolina, is
currently tied for the league-lead in wins with five. He leads the
Conference with 72.0 innings pitched and owns a 5-1 record with a
1.88 ERA. Perry has struck out 100 batters which is nearly 40 more
than the next highest total in the league. This season, he collects
his first All-Conference honor as he earns first team accolades.
Finally, Perry was named USA South Pitcher of the Week three times
this spring.
Feldmann, a freshman second baseman from Danville, Virginia,
played a key role in The Pride's season as he leads all USA
South rookies with a .385 batting average to go along
with 23 runs scored, 23 RBI and a .525 slugging percentage. He
currently ranks tied for sixth in the USA South with 47 hits,
ten doubles and two triples. For his efforts this spring, Feldmann
collected First Team All-Conference honors at second base.
Finally, Feldmann was named USA South Rookie of the Week twice this
season.
A freshman pitcher from Sicklerville, New Jersey, Riegler has
posted a perfect 4-0 record with four saves and a 1.32 ERA in
15 appearances this season. His four wins currently rank
tied for sixth in the Conference while his four saves are tied for
the second-most in the league. Riegler has tossed a total of
27.1 innings and allowed 12 walks with 19 strikeouts.
Additionally, Riegler earned USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week
honors twice this spring.
In his 12th season at Christopher Newport, Head Coach John
Harvell collects his third Coach of the Year honor.
Harvell has led the Captains to a 25-6 overall record, a
9-3 conference mark and the program's third USA South Regular
Season title. Additionally, the Captains are currently ranked
second in the D3Baseball.com national Division III baseball
poll. Harvell now leads his squad into the USA South
tournament as the top-seeded team.
