USA South Athletes of the Week - Jan. 8, 2024

  • Men's Basketball Player of the Week
    Koa Baker, Southern Virginia - The sophomore guard from Eagle Mountain, Utah averaged 25.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game as the Knights went 1-1 against USA South opposition last week. In a 72-64 loss to N.C. Wesleyan, Baker notched a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds to go along with two assists. In a 79-73 victory over Brevard, Baker scored 32 points with nine rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Also Nominated: Derrion Hicklen, Methodist; Beau Bryant, William Peace; Marquis Eskew, N.C.     Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
    Creed Musick, Pfeiffer - The freshman forward from Bristol, Tennessee averaged 3.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game as the Falcons posted a 2-0 record last week. In a 71-67 win over Johnson & Wales (NC), Musick scored a career-best five points with three rebounds. In a 94-78 win over USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan, Musick contributed two points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal. Also Nominated: Markquan Gilbert, N.C. Wesleyan.

  • Women's Basketball Player of the Week
    Tanaesha Ellison, William Peace - The junior guard from Asheboro, North Carolina averaged a double-double of 30.0 points and 14.5 rebounds to go along with 6.5 steals, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game as the Pacers posted a 1-1 record against USA South opposition. In a 100-74 loss to Methodist, Ellison scored 27 points with five rebounds, two steals, and one block. In a 70-60 win over Mary Baldwin, Ellison posted a triple-double with 33 points along with single-game program-records of 24 rebounds and 11 steals.     Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
    Anaya Hall, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman forward from Fayetteville, North Carolina averaged 17.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals, and 1.5 assists per game as the Battling Bishops posted a 1-1 record against USA South competition last week. In a 107-67 win over Salem, Hall scored 20 points with eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block. In a 74-67 loss to Southern Virginia, Hall contributed 15 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and one assist.
