The USA South Athletic Conference's men's basketball coaches have released their 2024-25 preseason poll. Head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
N.C. Wesleyan was placed atop the rankings for the fourth consecutive season thanks to receiving 47 total points and six of the possible eight first place votes. The Battling Bishops finished tied for third following last year's USA South regular season and were ousted during the first round of the tournament. Pfeiffer, who was responsible for ending N.C. Wesleyan's season, placed second in the poll with 37 total points while Greensboro rounded out the top-three with 32 points and one first place vote. Finally, the defending regular season and tournament champions, Mary Baldwin, appeared fourth in the poll with 31 points and the final remaining first place vote.
Since the first Conference men's basketball preseason poll in 2004-05, the N.C. Wesleyan program has now been picked to capture the title six times, fulfilling those expectations just once. The team picked first in the poll's history has won the Conference championship only ten out of 21 years. Finally, the team picked first in the preseason poll has reached at least the semifinals of the Conference tournament 16 times and played for the championship on 13 occasions.
The 2025 USA South Men's Basketball Tournament will once again be conducted exclusively on campus sites. The top-six seeded teams will advance to postseason play which will begin with first round action on Tuesday, February 25. The semifinals will take place Thursday, February 27 with the finals occurring on Saturday, March 1. The higher-seeded team in each contest will serve as the host of that particular game.
