2024 USA South Softball Awards Announced

The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2024 All-Conference awards for softball. Individually, Pfeiffer nearly swept all the awards as Kenzi Lyall was named Player of the Year, Kali Morton grabbed Pitcher of the Year, Kyler Perdue captured Rookie of the Year, and Monte Sherrill was named Coach of the Year. Finally, Greensboro's Katherine Charlton was named Rookie Pitcher of the Year to round out the individual awards. Additionally, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school who their coach felt displayed the best sportsmanship this season.

All honors are determined by votes from the softball coach at each institution.

Lyall, a junior utility player from Sparta, North Carolina, becomes the sixth player in USA South Softball history to be named Player of the Year in consecutive seasons. During the regular season, Lyall scored a League-leading 47 runs while compiling a .441 batting average and an .814 slugging percentage to go along with 39 RBI, ten doubles, and ten home runs. Additionally, on the mound, Lyall was 13-0 with a 0.75 ERA and 65 strikeouts. Against USA South foes, Lyall led the League in slugging percentage (.911) and home runs (6) while compiling a .422 batting average with 20 RBI and 19 runs scored. For her efforts this season, Lyall collected First Team All-Conference accolades for the second consecutive spring and was named USA South Pitcher of the Week three times.

A senior pitcher from Mooresville, North Carolina, Morton becomes the sixth player in USA South Softball history to be named Pitcher of the Year in consecutive seasons. Following the regular season, she led the League with 19 wins, a 0.67 ERA, 124.2 innings pitched, and 156 strikeouts. Against USA South competition, Morton posted a Conference-best record of 10-1 while leading the League in ERA (0.22), innings pitched (64.1), shutouts (6), and strikeouts (71). Morton earns First Team All-Conference honors as a pitcher for the second straight season in addition to being named USA South Pitcher of the Week five times this spring.

Perdue, a freshman shortstop from Asheboro, North Carolina, becomes the second Falcon (Gracie Griffin, 2022) to earn USA South Softball Rookie of the Year. She currently has amassed a .359 batting average with a .403 on-base percentage and a .375 slugging percentage. Perdue has also added 24 runs scored, ten RBI, and nine stolen bases. Against USA South opposition, Perdue was tied for second in the League with a .462 batting average coupled with 12 runs scored, seven RBI, and three stolen bases. For her efforts, Perdue collected Second Team All-Conference honors as a shortstop as well as being named USA South Rookie of the Week once this spring.

A freshman pitcher from Chesapeake, Virginia, Charlton becomes just the third Pride hurler to earn USA South Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Year. She has compiled a 7-1 record and a 3.45 ERA over 13 starts with 35 strikeouts. In games against USA South opponents, Charlton was a perfect 5-0 with a 2.27 ERA in 37.0 innings pitched. Finally, Charlton was named USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week six times this spring.

In his ninth season at Pfeiffer, Sherrill collects his third consecutive USA South Coach of the Year honor. He's led the Falcons to a 38-2 overall record which included a 16-2 record in Conference play and the program's fourth consecutive regular season title. The 16 League wins match Pfeiffer's total from two seasons ago which is the most for the program since joining the USA South in 2018. Finally, the Falcons have been nationally-ranked for the entire season and currently sit 13th.
