USA South Athletes of the Week - October 13, 2025

  • Football Offensive Player of the Week
    Brock Morris, Belhaven - The Jackson, Mississippi senior quarterback led three scoring drives in the final 12 minutes of the game to overcome a 14-point deficit and lead the Blazers to a 41-38 win over USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan. Morris was 24-for-34 through the air with 448 yards and three touchdowns. The 448 yards are the most in a single-game by a USA South quarterback since 2021.     Crew Sage, Southern Virginia - The Dayton, Idaho freshman running back carried the ball twice for 26 yards in a 35-32 loss to USA South foe Brevard last week Also Nominated: None.

    Football Defensive Player of the Week
    Brandon Broughton, Brevard - The Lawrenceville, Georgia sophomore defensive back collected ten total tackles, two pass breakups, and an interception in a 35-32 victory over USA South rival Southern Virginia. Broughton accumulated five solo and assisted tackles with one tackle for a loss of three yards. His interception came with six seconds remaining in the second quarter at the Tornado four yard line to prevent any points by the Knights to end the half.     Football Defensive Rookie of the Week
    Mathias Winston, N.C. Wesleyan - The Fayetteville, North Carolina freshman safety collected 14 total tackles, including one for a loss, in a 41-38 loss to USA South foe Belhaven. Winston accumulated nine solo tackles with five assisted take downs.     Football Special Teams Player of the Week
    Lyndell Boatman, Belhaven - The Eupora, Mississippi junior place kicker connected on two field goals including the game-winner with 26 seconds remaining in a 41-38 victory over USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan. Boatman was good from 20 and 18 yards out on the day while also hitting all five of his point-after-touchdown attempts.   • Men's Soccer Player of the Week
    Ausar Omwenga, William Peace - The Cary, North Carolina senior forward scored once with one assist in a 1-0-1 week for the Pacers against USA South foes. In a 1-1 draw with unbeaten Pfeiffer, Omwenga assisted on the game-tying goal in the 65th minute. In a 1-0 win over Brevard, Omwenga notched the only goal of the game which came in the 35th minute.     Men's Soccer Defender of the Week
    Alex Michael, Pfeiffer - The New Orleans, Louisiana junior defender helped the Falcons to a 1-0-1 record, allowing just two goals, last week against USA South foes while scoring twice himself. In a 1-1 draw with William Peace, Michael, who came up for a corner kick, headed the first goal of the match in during the 36th minute. In a 3-1 win over Greensboro, Michael connected on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute to tie the game. Also Nominated: Santiago Calvo Lovera, N.C.     Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
    Troy Chamberlain, Southern Virginia - The Lehi, Utah freshman goalkeeper stopped 11 out of 12 shots in a 1-0-1 week for the Knights. In a 1-0 win over Guilford, Chamberlain posted a shutout by stopping all five shots he saved. In a 1-1 draw with USA South foe Methodist, Chamberlain made six total saves.   • Women's Soccer Player of the Week
    Mikayla Zvekan, Brevard - The Draper, Utah senior forward scored four times with two assists as the Tornados posted a 2-0 record last week. In a 4-0 win at Warren Wilson, Zvekan notched the eventual game-winning goal while assisting on two other scores. In a 4-1 victory over USA South foe Mary Baldwin, Zvekan tallied a hat trick with three goals which included the first, third, and fourth scores of the match for the Tornados.     Women's Soccer Defender of the Week
    Griffin Horn, Greensboro - The Easley, South Carolina freshman goalkeeper led the Pride to a 2-0 record last week against USA South competition, stopping six of the seven shots faced. In a 4-0 win over William Peace, Horn played the first 45 minutes and did not need to make a save. In a 2-1 victory over Mary Baldwin, Horn went the distance and collected six saves.     Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
    Xoie Warner, Southern Virginia - The Riverton, Utah freshman forward scored twice as the Knights posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 1-0 loss to nationally-ranked Christopher Newport, Warner was held without a shot. In a 4-0 win over USA South foe Methodist, Warner scored twice in the second half to help secure the victory.   • Volleyball Player of the Week
    Ella Brameus, Salem - The senior outside hitter from Chicago, Illinois averaged 4.33 points, 3.00 kills, while hitting at a .390 clip, 1.83 digs, and 1.17 service aces per set as the Spirits posted a 2-0 record last week versus USA South foes Brevard and William Peace. Brameus posted week match-highs of 11 kills, eight digs, four service aces, and one block (twice).     Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
    Morgan Mayfield, Greensboro - The senior libero from Mount Airy, North Carolina averaged 7.57 digs per set as the Pride posted a 2-0 record last week with wins over USA South foes Southern Virginia and N.C. Wesleyan. Mayfield posted week match-highs of 29 digs, four assists, two service aces, and one kill (twice). Also Nominated: Mary Miller, Methodist; Megan Murray, Meredith; Jadyn Smith, N.C. Wesleyan; Madison Bozarth, Salem; Alexa Ammerman, Mary Baldwin; Maegan Brylski, William Peace; Madison Tate, Pfeiffer.

    Volleyball Rookie of the Week
    Aubrey Chesson, William Peace - The freshman outside hitter from Wake Forest, North Carolina averaged 3.50 kills and 3.00 digs per set as the Pacers posted a 1-1 record last week versus USA South foes with a win over Meredith coupled with a loss to Salem. Chesson posted two double-doubles to go along with week match-highs of a career-high 14 kills (twice), 12 digs (twice), one assist (twice), and one service ace.   • Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
    Delaney Bundy, Meredith - The Cary, North Carolina junior placed first out of 147 runners at the Queens Royals Cross Country Challenge last week. Bundy completed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 18:36. Also Nominated: Ryan Germain, Pfeiffer; Triana Smallwood, Salem.

    Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
    Juana Silva Jimenez, Meredith - The Moncure, North Carolina freshman placed fifth out of 147 runners at the Queens Royals Cross Country Challenge last week. Silva Jimenez completed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19:10. Also Nominated: Yamile Molly Perry, Brevard; Lily Bolz, Pfeiffer.
