2025-26 USA South Men's Basketball Awards Announced

The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2025-26 All-Conference awards for men's basketball. Individually, Pfeiffer's Doug Smith was named both Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Southern Virginia's Ashton Davis earned Rookie of the Year honors while his coach, Trace Bevell, was named Coach of the Year. Additionally, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school who their coach felt displayed the best sportsmanship this season.

All awards are voted on by the men's basketball coach at each institution.

Smith, a senior forward from Bodin, North Carolina, becomes the first men's basketball player to earn the League's Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards in the same season. He is the second player in Conference history to be named Defensive Player of the Year twice in a career and is the first Falcon men's basketball student-athlete to be named Player of the Year. During the regular season, Smith led the USA South, averaging 9.3 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game to go along with 16.3 points and 1.8 assists each contest. Against USA South opposition-only, Smith again led in rebounding and blocks shots, averaging 9.9 boards and 3.4 swats per game while putting in 16.2 points each game. In a January victory over USA South foe Greensboro, Smith tallied his second-career triple-double with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and ten blocks. For his efforts this winter, Smith was named a First Team All-Conference member for the second consecutive season while also claiming USA South Player of the Week three times.

Davis, an Apex, North Carolina freshman center, becomes the second Southern Virginia men's basketball student-athlete to be named USA South Rookie of the Year (Koa Baker, 2022-23). During the regular season, Davis averaged 11.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. Against Conference foes-only, Davis' averages increased to 13.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Finally, Davis was named USA South Rookie of the Week seven times.

Bevell, in his third season as Southern Virginia's head coach, is the first Knight men's basketball leader to be named USA South Coach of the Year. Picked to finish seventh by the coaches in the preseason poll, Bevell's Knights placed third following the conclusion of the regular season. SVU finished with a 10-4 Conference record with the ten league wins being the most since the program joined the USA South in 2021-22.
