Pfeiffer's Michael Named First Team Academic All-American

The postseason honors continue for the Pfeiffer men's soccer team and junior defender Alex Michael.

A junior from New Orleans, Louisiana, Michael was named as a 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) First Team Academic All-American this week. He is the first male student-athlete to earn this honor in school history.

Currently, Michael has a 4.0 grade-point average as a Pfeiffer nursing student, along with being named to the United States Soccer Coaches Association's All-American Fourth Team and First Team All-Region.

Michael was the regular-season scoring champion in the USA South Conference with 11 goals and an assist, and has 19 goals and three assists in his three seasons with the Falcons.

With his back-to-back hat-trick games in 2025, Michael also was the Top Drawer Soccer D3 Men's Player of the Week.

"Alex Michael is a shining example of a Pfeiffer University student-athlete with his academic and athletic success this season," Pfeiffer interim athletic director Jeff Childress said.

"What Alex accomplished this season is truly special. Balancing a 4.0 GPA while earning many postseason honors speaks volumes about his work ethic, character, and the standard he sets for our program."

This season, the Pfeiffer men's soccer team won the USA South regular-season championship, finishing with an undefeated mark of 14-0-4. This year's record was the first undefeated season for the Falcons since the team won the NCAA Div. II national title in 2005.

"Alex means everything to our program," Pfeiffer head men's soccer coach Tony Faticoni said. "He's super intelligent, does well academically, and he is an unbelievable leader. He's the total package."

The coach added, "I'm excited to see him going into his senior for what he can accomplish and we can accomplish as a team. I'm probably more excited to see what he does once he leaves Pfeiffer, because whatever that kid does, he's going to be successful."

Faticoni noted one story about Michael when the Pfeiffer reserve team was playing a game this season and Michael was in the stands with his teammates.

"While the game is going on, Alex is sitting with all the guys, and he is doing his homework. That's the kind of guy he is," Faticoni said.

"I took a picture of him and sent it to his father. I said to him, 'You built this kid differently.'"

Michael's honor marks the second straight academic year Pfeiffer University has had a nominee to the CSC Division III Academic All-American Team. Following the 2025 softball season this past spring, Pfeiffer softball player Emma Bullin was named as a CSC Second Team All-American.

The honor also is the first time since 2013 that Pfeiffer University has had a member on the CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-American First Team, when Pfeiffer Sports Hall of Fame member Brittany Cox of the women's basketball program earned the honor. Cox was a two-time CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American selection.

Another Pfeiffer athlete previously named as a CoSIDA Academic First Team All-American was women's lacrosse player Breanna Clark, who earned the honor following the  2006 and 2007 seasons.
