Southern Virginia Women's Basketball Ready for NCAA Tournament

Buena Vista, VA - After a historic run to their second consecutive USA South Championship, the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team will march on to play Bates College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. In the Knights third trip to the dance in just four seasons, they'll be looking to make their deepest run in program history.

Bates is coming off of a loss in the quarterfinal of their conference tournament and will be the first obstacle during the Knights' tournament run. Meanwhile, Southern Virginia has been on a tear since November, racking up 24 straight wins and knocking off a nationally ranked team in the process. All but four of those wins have been in double-digits thanks to a balanced attack on the offensive end, and a stingy defense led by USA South Defensive Player of the Year, Aysia Foster.

The Knights last tournament win came in 2022 before bowing out in the second round. Addison Newman, the USA South Tournament MVP for a second year in a row, always seems to take her play to the next level during the postseason and will be heavily relied on by the Knights. Abigail Snyder, a First Team All-Conference member, has also not been afraid of the bright lights and is enjoying another well-rounded campaign.

Of course, the Knights will use their depth to their advantage against a team that made it as far as the Sweet 16 just one season ago. If Southern Virginia can navigate themselves past Bates, they'll face the winner of the Mount Saint Mary and Scranton matchup. Scranton serves as the host of the first two rounds in this part of the bracket. Tip-off for the opening round versus Bates is set for 4:15 PM.
