The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2025 All-Conference awards for baseball. Individually, it was nearly a Methodist sweep as Tristen Melvin was named Player of the Year, Kyle Molivas collected Pitcher of the Year, Ian Swanson grabbed Rookie Pitcher of the Year, and Tom Austin was named Coach of the Year. Pfeiffer's Hunter Huneycutt was named Rookie of the Year to round out the individual awards. Additionally, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school who their coach felt displayed the best sportsmanship this season.
All honors are determined by votes from the baseball coach at each institution.
Melvin, a senior outfielder from Cincinnati, Ohio becomes the fourth Monarch, first since 2002, to be named USA South Player of the Year. During the regular season, he was in the top-three of the Conference in batting average (.432), slugging percentage (.671), and led the League with 48 RBI. Melvin has also added 63 hits, nine doubles, four triples, six home runs, and nine stolen bases this spring. In USA South games-only, Melvin posted League-highs of a .506 batting average, a .570 on-base percentage, and a .894 slugging percentage to go along with a USA South-best 40 RBI. For his efforts, Melvin earns First Team All-Conference accolades for the first time in his career.
Molivas, a senior from Stedman, North Carolina, is the fourth Monarch, first since 2016, to be named USA South Pitcher of the Year. During the regular season, Molivas compiled a USA South-best 7-2 record in 13 appearances, all starts, with a 3.62 ERA with 51 strikeouts, both of which were second in the League. In Conference contests-only, Molivas posted a perfect 5-0 record with a 2.03 ERA while striking out 35 batters. This season, he collects First Team All-Conference honors as a pitcher for the second time in his career.
Huneycutt, a freshman from Laurinburg, North Carolina becomes the second Falcon (Bryce Marsh, 2019) to be named USA South Baseball Rookie of the Year. During the regular season, Huneycutt complied a .394 batting average with a .463 on-base percentage, and a .549 slugging percentage to go along with 32 runs scored, 24 RBI, seven doubles, five home runs, and 17 stolen bases. Against USA South opposition, Huneycutt was seventh in the League with a .424 batting average with all five of his home runs. For his efforts this season, Huneycutt was named Second Team All-Conference and collected USA South Rookie of the Week honors once.
A freshman pitcher from Tallahassee, Florida, Swanson becomes just the second Monarch hurler (Michael Judge, 2011) to earn USA South Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Year accolades. Swanson posted a regular season record of 5-1 with a USA South-best 2.12 ERA and a League-high 68 strikeouts. Against USA South foes-only, Swanson was 3-1 with a 3.43 ERA over seven starts with a co-League best 42 strikeouts. For his efforts this season, Swanson was named a First Team All-Conference starting pitcher, earned USA South Pitcher of the Week three times, and USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week on six occasions.
In his 46th season at the helm of Methodist, Austin earns his League-leading 13th USA South Baseball Coach of the Year honor. The Monarchs captured the program's 20th all-time USA South Regular Season crown, the first since 2018, by accumulating a 16-5 Conference record this spring after being placed tied for third in the coaches preseason poll. With an overall record of 27-13, Methodist is one win away from gaining the most victories since the 2019 squad won 32.
