AUSTIN, Texas - The College Sports Communicators organization announced its Academic All-America Division III Baseball Teams on Tuesday, naming Methodist's Tristen Melvin to the Second Team of the national academic squad.
The outfielder from Cincinnati, Ohio, was previously one of four members of the Methodist baseball team to earn Academic All–District honors earlier this month.
Melvin's senior season was historic. He became the first Monarch to receive All–American accolades since 2019, making the American Baseball Coaches Association's All–America Second Team and D3Baseball.com's All–America Third Team after both organizations recognized him as a First Team All–Region player.
While Methodist claimed both the USA South's regular season and tournament titles, Melvin led the team with 75 hits, 63 RBIs, 10 homeruns, a .417 batting average, a slugging percentage of .689 and an on–base percentage of .486. He tallied 11 doubles and four triples on the season while crossing home plate a total of 53 times, and he posted a fielding percentage of .962 while covering left field. He was named USA South Player of the Year, and his performance during the USA South Tournament was enough to garner the tournament MVP award.
Majoring in Healthcare Biology, Melvin ended his time at Methodist with a cumulative grade point average of 3.95, which was fifth highest among the 30 undergraduates across the three Division III Academic All–America teams.
Melvin becomes the fifth player in Methodist baseball history to earn Academic All–America status from the College Sports Communicators organization. He joins Spencer Nelson (2022), Alex Kachler (2020), Joe Myrtle (1993) and Jay Kirkpatrick (1991).
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Division III Academic All-America® program.
