USA South Athletes of the Week - February 16, 2026

  • Men's Basketball Player of the Week
    DJ Via, Mary Baldwin - The Roanoke, Virginia sophomore guard averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game last week as the Fighting Squirrels posted a 2-0 record against USA South foes. In a 70-69 win at Greensboro, Via hit a buzzer-beating jumper to get his team the victory. He totaled 16 points, four steals, three rebounds, and three assists in the game. In a 70-67 victory at Methodist, Via scored 24 points with five rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Also Nominated: Will Gray, Greensboro; Rashod Smith, N.C.     Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
    Ashton Davis, Southern Virginia - The Apex, North Carolina freshman center averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game last week as the Knights dropped two games to USA South foes. In a 90-87 loss at Methodist, Davis scored 27 points with five rebounds, one assist, and one block. In an 89-72 loss at N.C. Wesleyan, Davis totaled eight points, three rebounds, and one assist.   • Women's Basketball Player of the Week
    Olivia Miller, Brevard - The Hudson, North Carolina senior forward averaged 19.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game last week as the Tornados posted a 2-0 record against USA South competition. In an 86-48 win over Mary Baldwin, Miller posted a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds to go along with three steals, two assists, and two blocks. In a 73-63 win at Southern Virginia, snapping the Knights' 34-game Conference regular season winning streak, Miller scored 20 points with nine rebounds, three assists, and one steal.     Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
    Kensly Stewart, Greensboro - The freshman guard from Marion, North Carolina averaged 13.3 points, 5.3 steals, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game as the Pride posted a 2-1 record last week against USA South foes. In a 78-73 win over Methodist, Stewart poured in 18 points with five steals, three rebounds, and three assists. In a 55-51 victory over N.C. Wesleyan Stewart scored 12 points with seven steals, four rebounds, and three assists. Finally, in a 64-60 loss at William Peace, Stewart contributed ten points, six rebounds, four steals, and one assist.   • Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
    Bricen Burleson, Pfeiffer - The sophomore from Kannapolis, North Carolina competed in the mile at the ASICS Sound Invitational last week. His time of 4:12.80 is currently tops the Conference and is fourth in the region. Also Nominated: Logan Wade, Methodist; Jamel Corey, N.C. Wesleyan; Zeke Newman, Southern Virginia.

    Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
    Jaxsen Wilkerson, Brevard - The senior from Granite Falls, North Carolina competed in two events at the Mid-Winter Collegiate Invitational last week. In the triple jump, with a leap of 14.32 meters, Wilkerson set a new USA South and program record. Also, in the long jump, Wilkerson is currently tied for the six-best mark of the season,  6.41 meters. Also Nominated: Jak Martin, Southern Virginia.

    Men's Indoor Track Rookie of the Week
    Jamel Corey, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Winterville, North Carolina participated in two events last week at the Pre-Nationals. In the 200 meters, Corey set the current third best time in the Conference with a 21.90 while in the 60 meters, his time of 6.96 is currently the fourth-best in the USA South. Also Nominated: Tucker Shifflett, Mary Baldwin; Triston Rabon, Pfeiffer; Sawyer Apple, Southern Virginia.

    Men's Indoor Field Rookie of the Week
    Jarius Fajardo, Methodist - The senior from Darlington, South Carolina, competing in his first season of collegiate indoor track and field, took part in the high jump last week at the VMI Winter Classic. Fajardo set the current second-best mark in the Conference this season, clearing 1.95 meters. Also Nominated: Rahnier Lyons, Pfeiffer; Trevor Burke, Southern Virginia.

  • Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
    Kamiyah Wooten, N.C. Wesleyan - The junior from Farmville, North Carolina competed in three events at the Pre-Nationals last week. In the 200 meters, Wooten finished in a time of 24.62 which is the current top-effort in the USA South and the region. In the 60 meters, Wooten's time of 7.79 is currently second in the Conference and third in the region. Finally, Wooten helped set a new USA South record as a member of the 4x400 meter relay team. Also Nominated: Delaney Bundy, Meredith; Bayleigh Redd-Armstrong, Southern Virginia.

    Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
    Marin Simons, Southern Virginia - The sophomore from Silt, Colorado competed in the high jump at the VMI Winter Classic last week. Simons set a new program record by clearing 1.65 meters. Also Nominated: Bryanna Herring, Meredith; NaQuayla Stanford, N.C. Wesleyan.

    Women's Indoor Track Rookie of the Week
    Saniya Hall, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Winston-Salem, North Carolina competed in two events at the Pre-Nationals last week. In the 400 meters, Hall's time of 58.18 is currently third-best in the USA South. Hall then helped set a new USA South record as a member of the 4x400 meter relay team.     Women's Indoor Field Rookie of the Week
    Jamie Cornatzer, Meredith - The freshman from Cooleemee, North Carolina competed in two events at the VMI Winter Classic last week. In the weight throw, Cornatzer's best effort was 13.38 meters while in the shot put, she had a toss of 10.92 meters. Also Nominated: NaQuayla Stanford, N.C. Wesleyan; Jayden Carter, Pfeiffer; Andie Hughes, Southern Virginia.

  • Baseball Player of the Week
    Lucas Woodard, Brevard - The sophomore infielder from Largo, Florida has gone a combined 11-for-17 (.647) with a .619 on-base percentage, and a 1.118 slugging percentage to go along with seven runs scored, 13 RBI, three doubles, one triple, one home run, one walk, and five stolen bases as the Tornados have posted a 6-0 record to open the season. The wins have come over Johnson & Wales (NC) (3), Guilford, and Berea (2). Woodard, in five games, posted week game-highs of four hits, two runs scored (twice), four RBI (twice), one triple, one home run, one walk, and two stolen bases (twice).     Baseball Pitcher of the Week
    Michael Heis, Methodist - The sophomore from Huntersville, North Carolina started one game last week for the Monarchs, getting the win against Virginia Wesleyan (11-4). Heis tossed six scoreless innings, allowing three hits with one walk and six strikeouts.     Baseball Rookie of the Week
    Patrick Sido, Mary Baldwin - The freshman outfielder from Springfield, Virginia went a combined 5-for-8 (.625) with a .667 on-base percentage, and a 1.125 slugging percentage to go along with two runs scored, five RBI, one double, and one home run in a doubleheader split with Marymount last week to open the season. Also Nominated: Kacey Shanks, Brevard; Ben Mecimore, Pfeiffer; Tyler Bales, Southern Virginia; Kade Bell, Methodist; Tyler Alverio, Greensboro.

    Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
    Isaiah Ralls, Greensboro - The freshman from Spartanburg, South Carolina earned in a win in his first collegiate start, a 5-4 win over Washington & Lee last week. In five innings, Ralls allowed one run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Also Nominated: Stash Spear, Brevard; Cameron Cooper, Pfeiffer; Benjamin Jackson, Southern Virginia.

  • Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Justin Barry, Greensboro - The senior attackman from Lexington, North Carolina totaled ten points on six goals and four assists in the team's lone contest last week, a 20-6 win over Randolph. He also added six ground balls in the victory. Also Nominated: Dylan Sullivan, Pfeiffer; Stetson Hogge, Southern Virginia; Jaxon McMonigle, Huntingdon; Caleb Garey, William Peace; Nick Spinola, Methodist; Nick Winter, Piedmont.

    Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Derrick Buchanan, William Peace - The sophomore long-stick midfielder from Jacksonville, North Carolina caused six turnovers and collected seven ground balls in a 2-0 week for the Pacers. In a 10-4 win over Earlham, Buchanan grabbed four ground balls and caused one turnover. In ab 8-7 victory over Wilmington, Buchanan caused five turnovers and totaled three ground balls.     Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    Stetson Hogge, Southern Virginia - The freshman attackman from Eden, Utah totaled 15 points on nine goals and six assists to go along with four ground balls and one caused turnover as the Knights posted a 1-1 record last week. In a win over Marymount, Hogge scored three times with five assists, four ground balls, and one caused turnover. In a 19-12 loss at Virginia Wesleyan, Hogge scored six goals with one assist.   • Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Analise Robinson, Pfeiffer - The senior midfielder from Winston-Salem, North Carolina totaled 12 points on 11 goals and one assist to go along with 12 draw controls, seven ground balls, and five caused turnovers as the team posted a 2-0 record last week. In a 19-3 win over Montreat, Robinson scored five times with six draw controls, six ground balls, and four caused turnovers. In a 17-13 victory over Guilford, Robinson totaled six goals, one assist, six draw controls, one ground ball, and one caused turnover.     Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Ansil Cannon, Piedmont - The sophomore goalie from McDonough, Georgia earned a win in the team's lone contest last week, a 15-4 victory over Oglethorpe. Cannon stopped eight shots and grabbed one ground ball in the win. Also Nominated: Keira Fenyo, Greensboro; Brooke Murrell, Methodist; Elizabeth Daniels, N.C. Wesleyan; Clara Smith, Pfeiffer.

    Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    Quinn Branca, Pfeiffer - The freshman midfielder from Mays Landing, New Jersey totaled nine points on eight goals and one assist with ten ground balls, ten draw controls, and six caused turnovers as the Falcons posted a 2-0 record last week. In a 19-3 win over Montreat, Branca scored four times with eight ground balls, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers. In a 17-13 victory over Guilford, Branca notched four more goals with one assist, seven draw controls, three caused turnovers, and two ground balls. Also Nominated: Amadis Levasa, Methodist; Avery Washington, Piedmont; Eliana Butler, N.C. Wesleyan; Aaliayh Akers, Greensboro.
