USA South Athletes of the Week - March 2, 2026

  • Baseball Player of the Week
    Levi Barrett, Pfeiffer - The sophomore infielder from Blacksburg, South Carolina went a combined 6-for-15 (.400) with a .412 on-base percentage, and a .933 slugging percentage to go along with three runs scored, 11 RBI, two doubles, two home runs, and one walk as the Falcons posted a 2-2 record last week. In a 15-5 loss to Guilford, Barrett was 1-for-3 with one run scored, four RBI, and one home run. In taking two of three games from Averett, Barrett was a combined 5-for-12 with two runs scored, seven RBI, two doubles, one walk-off two-run home run, and one walk.     Baseball Pitcher of the Week
    Cayman Buck, Pfeiffer - The junior from Norwood, North Carolina started one game last week for the Falcons, earning a win in an 8-0 victory over Averett. Buck tossed 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing six hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Also Nominated: Colin Weathers, Brevard; Isaiah Faudoa, Greensboro; Lance Gowans, Mary Baldwin; Garrett Brouwer, Methodist.

    Baseball Rookie of the Week
    Moe Love Jr., Brevard - The freshman outfielder from Clayton, North Carolina went a combined 3-for-9 (.333) with a .400 on-base percentage, and a .556 slugging percentage to go along with two runs scored, one run batted in, two doubles, one walk, and two stolen bases as the Tornados posted a 1-2 record last week. In a 12-10 win over Wheaton (Ill.), Love was 2-for-4 with one run scored, one run batted in, two doubles, and one walk. In a 14-0 loss to 13th-ranked Centre, Love was 0-for-1. Finally, in a 14-4 loss to Dominican (Ill.), Love was 1-for-4 with one run scored and two stolen bases. Also Nominated: Brayden Sands, Greensboro; Ben Mecimore, Pfeiffer.

    Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
    Cooper Cameron, Pfeiffer - The freshman from New London, North Carolina appeared in one game out of the bullpen last week for the Flacons. In a 9-8 victory over Averett, Cameron tossed 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing four hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Also Nominated: Isaiah Ralls, Greensboro; Addison Stewart, Southern Virginia.

  • Softball Player of the Week
    Ashbee Standridge, Meredith - The junior first baseman from Creedmoor, North Carolina went a combined 7-for-15 (.467) with a .500 on-base percentage, and a .933 slugging percentage to go along with three runs scored, five RBI, one double, two home runs, and one walk as the Avenging Angels posted a 1-3 record last week. In two losses to Averett, Standridge was a combined 4-for-8 with one run scored, two RBI, and one home run. In a 5-1 victory over New Paltz, Standridge was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Finally, in a 15-3 loss to seventh-ranked Randolph-Macon, Standridge was 2-for-3 with one run scored, three RBI, one home run, and one walk.     Softball Pitcher of the Week
    Addyson Romanczyk, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore from Grandy, North Carolina earned a complete game shutout victory in her only appearance last week for the Battling Bishops. In a 6-0 win over Sweet Briar, Romanczyk allowed just three hits with zero walks and two strikeouts. Also Nominated: Elizabeth Auciello, Brevard; Lillie Davis, Meredith; Raina Hampel, Greensboro; Kiersten Margoupis, Methodist.

    Softball Rookie of the Week
    Heather Vaughn, Pfeiffer - The freshman utility player from Eli Whitney, North Carolina went a combined 7-for-13 (.538) with a .538 on-base percentage, and a .615 slugging percentage to go along with two runs scored, three RBI, one double, and two stolen bases as the Falcons posted a 1-3 record last week. In going 1-2 against Piedmont, Vaughn was a combined 4-for-10 with one run scored, two RBI, and one stolen base. In a 5-2 loss to Mt. St. Joseph, Vaughn was a perfect 3-for-3 with one run scored, one run batted in, one double, and one stolen base. Also Nominated: Emily Hill, Brevard; Summer Sheek, Greensboro; Vivian Lloyd, N.C.     Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
    Abigail Bowman, Pfeiffer - The freshman from Lenoir, North Carolina appeared in three games, two starts, and went 1-2 with a 2.40 ERA, allowing six runs, four earned, on 12 hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. In her collegiate debut, a 9-0 win over Piedmont, Bowman tossed a five-inning no-hitter, with zero walks and five strikeouts.   • Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Justin Barry, Greensboro - The senior attackman from Lexington, North Carolina totaled ten points on seven goals and three assists with four ground balls as the Pride posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 9-8 loss to Bridgewater, Barry scored three times with two ground balls. In an 11-9 victory over Marymount, Barry totaled four goals, three assists, and two ground balls.     Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Michael Keane, Pfeiffer - The junior defender from Somers, New York totaled game-highs with eight ground balls and five caused turnovers in the team's lone contest last week, a 13-12, overtime, victory over Southwestern (Texas). Also Nominated: Braeden Mitchell, Greensboro; Mike Eisele, Piedmont; Carson McGee, William Peace; Ethan Schellenberger, Huntingdon.

    Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    Caleb Garey, William Peace - The freshman midfielder from Clayton, North Carolina totaled nine points on six goals and three assists with six ground balls and two caused turnovers. In an 11-4 win over Warren Wilson, Garey scored four goals with one assist, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. In a 13-7 victory over Averett, Garey scored twice with two assists and three ground balls. Also Nominated: Rhoan McKeehan, Huntingdon; Tate Claudio, Piedmont; Myles Nielson, Southern Virginia.

  • Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Maxima Iglesias, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior attacker from Buenos Aires, Argentina totaled 17 points on 13 goals and four assists to go along with 11 caused turnovers, ten draw controls, and seven ground balls as the Battling Bishops posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 13-8 loss to USA South foe Brevard, Iglesias scored six goals with one assist, six caused turnovers, four draw controls, and two ground balls. In the program's first victory since the 2023 season, a 12-8 win over Randolph, Iglesias scored seven times with three assists, six draw controls, five ground balls, and five caused turnovers.     Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Brooke Murrell, Methodist - The senior defender from Perryville, Maryland totaled six caused turnovers, seven ground balls, and eight draw controls, to go along with three goals and two assists, as the Monarchs posted a 2-0 record last week. In an 18-9 win over Guilford, Murrell had four caused turnovers, four ground balls, and six draw controls with three goals and one assist. In a 13-12 victory over Oglethorpe, Murrell caused two turnovers, grabbed three ground balls, had two draw controls, and added an assist. Also Nominated: Quinn Branca, Pfeiffer; Kyla Smith-Fondall, Brevard; Bri Garcia, N.C. Wesleyan.

    Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    Quinn Branca, Pfeiffer - The freshman midfielder from Mays Landing, New Jersey totaled eight points on eight goals with 18 ground balls, 12 draw controls, and 11 caused turnovers as the Falcons posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 16-0 win over Randolph, Branca scored five times with eight ground balls, eight caused turnovers, and five draw controls. In a 13-4 loss to Virginia Wesleyan, Branca again scored three goals to go along with ten ground balls, seven draw controls, and three caused turnovers.   • Men's Tennis Player of the Week
    Decklan Rayner, Methodist - The junior from Gosford, New South Wales, Australia posted a 2-0 singles record with a 1-1 doubles mark last week for the Monarchs. In singles, at the number-four spot, Rayner defeated an opponent from Covenant before besting an opponent from Guilford at the number-three position. In doubles, he teamed with Matthew Hurley Rayner to grab a win over Covenant at the number-two position. Also Nominated: Bogdan Stan, Pfeiffer.

    Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
    Hugo Kezen, Pfeiffer - The freshman from Rio de Janiero, Brazil has posted a 3-0 singles record with a 1-1 doubles mark thus far this spring for the Falcons. In singles, Kezen is 2-0 at the number-six spot and 1-0 at the number-five position with wins over opposition from Maryville, Piedmont, and Virginia Wesleyan. In doubles, Kezen has teamed with Aissultan Mukhambetov for both matches. Also Nominated: Billy Johnson, Methodist.

    Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
    Valter Albuquerque and Jayden Wellman, Pfeiffer - The Falcon duo has earned a 4-0 record thus far this spring at the number-one doubles spot. The two have grabbed wins over opposition from Bridgewater, Maryville, Piedmont, and Virginia Wesleyan. Also Nominated: Matthew Hurley and Decklan Rayner, Methodist.

  • Women's Tennis Player of the Week
    Bethan Fothergill, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior from Ipswich, Suffolk, England has earned a 2-1 singles record with a 1-2 doubles mark thus far this spring. In singles, at the number-two position, Fothergill earned wins over opposition from Guilford and Piedmont with a loss to Division-I Elon. In doubles, she has teamed with Renata Torres at the number-one spot for all three matches. Also Nominated: Caitlin Tihanovich, Methodist; Gracie Spangler, Pfeiffer.

    Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
    Helen Hofmann, Methodist - The freshman from Fayetteville, North Carolina earned a 2-0 singles record with a 1-1 doubles mark last week for the Monarchs. In singles, Hofmann grabbed wins at the number-two spot over opposition from Covenant and the number-three position over Guilford. In doubles, she teamed with Caitlin Tihanovich in both matches at the number-two position. Also Nominated: Peyton McGahey, N.C. Wesleyan; Aubrie Gatz, Pfeiffer.

    Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
    Andrea Elaez Miranda and Ivanna Torres, N.C. Wesleyan - The Battling Bishop duo have earned a 2-1 record at the number-two spot so far this spring. The victories have come over Guilford and Piedmont with a loss to Division-I Elon. Also Nominated: Haley Ingenito and Fanny Apostolou, Pfeiffer.
