Ashland, V.A. - N.C. Wesleyan saw its remarkable 2025–26 season come to a close in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on March 6 at Crenshaw Gymnasium, falling to nationally ranked Randolph-Macon 76–52 in front of a loud and energetic crowd of 1,202 fans. Despite the final score, the Bishops showed tremendous heart and determination throughout the contest, competing toe-to-toe with one of the nation's top teams on the biggest stage of the season. Wesleyan came out strong early, matching Randolph-Macon's intensity and carrying a 32–40 score into halftime after shooting 50 percent from the field in the opening period. The game featured several ties and lead changes in the first half as the Bishops battled through the electric postseason atmosphere. Although Randolph-Macon pulled away in the second half, N.C. Wesleyan continued to compete with resilience and pride until the final buzzer, representing their program with toughness and composure in a hard-fought postseason battle.
Individually, the Bishops received strong efforts from several players who stepped up in the national tournament environment. Markquan Gilbert led Wesleyan with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting while adding two rebounds and a steal off the bench. Nasir Johnson finished with 11 points and two rebounds, knocking down all five of his free-throw attempts and helping anchor the offense throughout the night. Deejayy Cox added eight points and three rebounds while battling inside, and Omari Bolden contributed six points and a block in key minutes. Justin Burden also pulled down five rebounds to help lead the team on the glass, while the Bishops' bench combined for 25 points in a determined team effort. Throughout the game, Wesleyan continued to fight for every possession, showcasing the grit and teamwork that defined their season.
While the NCAA Tournament result marked the end of the campaign, this group of Bishops leaves the court with an extraordinary season to celebrate. N.C. Wesleyan finished the year with a 21–7 overall record and an impressive 11–3 mark in USA South Conference play, culminating in the program capturing the USA South Conference Tournament Championship and earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The championship run, postseason victories, and the opportunity to compete on the national stage highlight what has been one of the most memorable seasons in program history. From thrilling home victories to cutting down the nets as conference champions, this team has built a legacy defined by perseverance, teamwork, and belief.
