PALM DESERT, CA—Erin Donovan of the Piedmont University women's golf team finished tied in 12th place after the final day of action at the NCAA DIII Women's Golf Tournament in California.
A strong final day gave rise to a new top golfer at the event as Carleton's Carter Sichol finished No. 1, going five under for the tournament. Sichol replaced Carnegie Mellon's Emma Wong, who fell to the third spot in the tournament after day three.
After a strong day three as an individual, the Piedmont leader entered her final round looking for a strong outing. Against a tough course, Donovan scored two double bogies on the first nine of the day, giving her a hill to climb. Despite the slow start, Donovan stayed steady, finishing the first nine of the day at plus four.
Entering the final nine, Donovan looked to catch fire, and after back-to-back pars to start, she found a birdie on hole three. The next four holes proved to be tumultuous for Donovan as she earned a bogey, birdie, par, and bogey. Looking to finish under for the back half, Donovan earned another birdie followed by a par to close out her afternoon.
Donovan put together a strong performance on the back half of her day to stay within the top 15 for the tournament, finishing tied 12 with Wash U's Amy Beanblossom.
The round concludes tournament action for Donovan and the Lions as Donovan put together a strong outing in California.
