BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Bobby Cashman as its new head tennis coach, bringing nearly three decades of collegiate tennis experience to lead the Tornados' men's and women's tennis programs. Coach Cashman will begin his duties immediately.
 
"I would like to thank Dr. Crews, Juan Mascaro, Kristin Rosato and Lee Burgess for their professionalism during the hiring process," commented Coach Cashman. "I am looking forward to rebuilding both tennis programs and competing for conference championships. My family is looking forward to becoming part of the Brevard College community."
 
Cashman joins Brevard following a highly successful tenure at Eastern Florida State College, where he served as head coach of both the men's and women's tennis programs from 2017 through 2025. During his time at Eastern Florida State, Cashman rebuilt both programs following a two-year probation period and a 50-percent scholarship reduction, helping return the teams to national prominence.

I am confident Bobby will make an immediate impact on our tennis programs and our department, and I look forward to watching him build something special here in the mountains."
 
Under Cashman's leadership, both programs consistently finished among the Top 5 in the NJCAA national rankings, including a No. 3 national ranking for the men's team in 2023 and a No. 5 ranking for the women's team. His teams also captured a fourth-place finish at the 2019 NJCAA National Tournament in Tucson, Arizona, while the women's program was recognized as the NJCAA Most Improved Program in 2021.
 
Cashman's players also experienced significant individual success. He coached the program's first National Singles Champion, Hugo Car, as well as numerous All-Americans in singles and doubles. In 2024, Cashman was named ITA Region Coach of the Year, further highlighting his impact on the program and its student-athletes.
 
Academically, Cashman placed a strong emphasis on student-athlete success. Both Eastern Florida State programs maintained team GPAs above 3.25 while earning consistent ITA All-Academic Team recognition from 2019 through 2024. Three players from each program also earned ITA Individual Academic Awards.
 
Prior to Eastern Florida State, Cashman spent 17 years as the head men's tennis coach at the University of Central Florida, where he helped establish the Knights as a nationally competitive program. During his tenure, UCF won three Atlantic Sun Championships, Cashman was named Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year twice, and the program produced 57 Academic All-Conference selections and 25 ITA Scholar-Athletes. He also coached six consecutive conference Freshman of the Year recipients and helped the program achieve a national ITA team ranking as high as No. 47.
 
Cashman's collegiate coaching career also includes assistant coaching positions at Rollins College, the University of Kansas, and Barry University. His career has included coaching numerous All-Americans, conference award winners, and nationally ranked players, while also overseeing recruiting, academic progress, strength and conditioning, match preparation, and overall program operations.
