USA South Athletes of the Week - September 21, 2026

  • Football Offensive Player of the Week
    Devin Watson, Southern Virginia - The West Jordan, Utah senior quarterback accounted for four touchdowns in a 38-14 win over Keystone last week. Watson was 21-of-29 through the air for 236 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Watson added a touchdown in the second quarter that proved to be eventual winning score.     Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
    Brandon Dupaix, Southern Virginia - The American Fork, Utah freshman running back ran for 170 yards on 35 carries in a 38-14 win over Keystone last week. Also Nominated: Christian Conley, Brevard; Amire Miller, LaGrange.

    Football Defensive Player of the Week
    Jayven Hall, LaGrange - The Roswell, Georgia sophomore linebacker collected ten total tackles, including three for a loss, and a pass breakup in a 16-14 win at Centre last week. Hall had six solo tackles and four assisted take downs while all three of his tackles for loss were unassisted. Also Nominated: Tre Chaffier, Belhaven; DJ Stevenson, Brevard; Jay Law, Greensboro; Nahmere Peace, Southern Virginia.

    Football Defensive Rookie of the Week
    Nahmere Peace, Southern Virginia - The Ashbury Park, New Jersey freshman linebacker collected eight total tackles and grabbed two interceptions, one of which he returned for a score, in a 38-14 win over Keystone last week. Peace totaled four solo tackles, one which was for a loss, and returned one of his interceptions 89 yards for a third quarter score.     Football Special Teams Player of the Week
    Alex Araneda, Brevard - The Montclair, California freshman place kicker connected on two of three field goals and both point-after-touchdown attempts in a 27-14 win over Erskine last week. Araneda was good from 35 and 25 yards out on the day. His first field goal make came towards the end of the first half and gave the Tornados the lead for good.   • Men's Soccer Player of the Week
    Carson Stretz, Methodist - The Virginia Beach, Virginia senior forward scored three times in a 2-0 week for the Monarchs. In a 4-0 win over Shaw, Stretz scored the match's first two goals, including the eventual game-winner. In a 7-2 victory over Piedmont, Stretz again opened the scoring with a goal in the 16th minute.     Men's Soccer Defender of the Week
    Isaac Northcutt, Southern Virginia - The Mapleton, Utah junior goalkeeper allowed just one goal in 135 minutes played with ten total saves over two contests. In a 1-0 loss to currently unbeaten Hampden-Sydney, Northcutt played the first half and did not allow a goal with one save. In a 1-1 draw with Randolph-Macon, Northcutt stopped nine of ten shots faced. Also Nominated: Gavin Beaupre, William Peace; Joel McGinnes, N.C.     Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
    Guilherme Barcelos, Brevard - The Osasco, Brazil graduate student forward, in his first year of collegiate soccer, scored the eventual game-winning goal in the team's lone contest last week, a 2-0 win over Berea. Barcelos opened the scoring with a goal in the 32nd minute. Also Nominated: Kayden Brimah, Greensboro; Hunter Talley, Methodist; Riccardo Baisi, N.C. Wesleyan; Dallas Story, William Peace.

  • Women's Soccer Player of the Week
    Isabella Kelly, Greensboro - The Wake Forest, North Carolina sophomore forward scored twice in a 1-0-1 week for the Pride. In a scoreless draw with Guilford, Kelly managed one shot on goal. In a 2-0 win over USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan, Kelly scored both of the match's goals, including the eventual game-winner in the 71st minute.     Women's Soccer Defender of the Week
    Abby Nunez, Brevard - The Homestead, Florida senior goalkeeper notched two shutouts and a 2-0-1 record last week for the Tornados. In 270 total minutes played, Nunez stopped 12 of the 13 shots faced. In a scoreless draw against Carolina University, Nunez stopped all four shots faced. In a 1-0 shutout of Warren Wilson, Nunez made six saves. Finally, in a 2-1 victory over USA South foe Mary Baldwin, Nunez collected two saves.     Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
    Sam Carroll, Meredith - The Franklinton, North Carolina freshman midfielder scored twice with two assists in a 1-1 week for the Avenging Angels. In a 4-0 loss to currently undefeated Lynchburg, Carroll was held to one shot on goal. In a 12-1 victory at USA South foe Salem, Carroll opened the match scoring with a goal in the seventh minute and followed that by assisting on the eventual game-winning goal before scoring again with another assist. Also Nominated: Halle Willardson, Southern Virginia; Hannah Torri, William Peace; Alyssa Lane, Greensboro; Jerusalen Gonzalez, Pfeiffer.

  • Volleyball Player of the Week
    Aaliyah Anderson, William Peace - The sophomore outside hitter from South Mills, North Carolina averaged 3.33 kills, with a .333 hitting, as the Pacers posted a 2-0 record last week against USA South foes. The wins came over Pfeiffer and Methodist. Anderson posted week-match of 20 kills, four digs, and four blocks. Also Nominated: Savannah Hovander, Methodist; Caroline Moon, Brevard; Ariana Noplos, Salem; Jada Thomas, Pfeiffer; Abigail Leo, Greensboro; Daven Brabble, Meredith; Sabrina Birts, Mary Baldwin.

    Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
    Morgan Mayfield, Greensboro - The senior libero from Mount Airy, North Carolina averaged 6.55 digs per set as the Pride posted a 2-1 record last week against USA South foes. The wins came over Salem and Mary Baldwin with a loss to Meredith. Mayfield posted week match-highs of 29 digs, four assists, four service aces, and two kills. Also Nominated: Megan Murray, Meredith; Sarah Buchy, Mary Baldwin; Izzy Boulay, Brevard; Grace Tillery, Methodist; Molly Wright, Pfeiffer.

    Volleyball Rookie of the Week
    Harper Evans, Methodist - The freshman setter from Edenton, North Carolina averaged 7.89 assists and 2.67 digs per set as the Monarchs posted a 1-1 record last week against USA South foes. The win came over Pfeiffer with the loss to William Peace. Evans posted double-doubles in each match to go along with week match-highs of 40 assists (career-high), 12 digs (twice), six kills, two service aces, and one block.     Bricen Burleson, Pfeiffer - The China Grove, North Carolina junior placed fourth out of 155 runners at the NCAA Division III South Region Preview last week. Burleson completed the 8,000-meter course in time of 26:00. Also Nominated: Ethan Carlan, Brevard.

    Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
    Kovyk Chandler, Southern Virginia - The Buena Vista, Virginia freshman placed tenth out of 155 runners at the NCAA Division III South Region Preview last week. Chandler completed the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26:17. Also Nominated: Caden Fuller, Brevard; Aiden Edwards, Pfeiffer.

  • Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
    Bayleigh Armstrong, Southern Virginia - The Spanish Fork, Utah senior placed second out of 129 runners at the NCAA Division III South Region Preview last week. Armstrong completed the 6,000-meter course in a time of 22:11. Also Nominated: Malayka Rankin, Brevard; Delaney Bundy, Meredith; Makayla Borst, Pfeiffer.

    Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
    Hazel Scharman, Southern Virginia - The Chesapeake, Virginia freshman placed 19th out of 129 runners at the NCAA Division III South Region Preview last week. Scharman completed the 6,000-meter course in a time of 24:38. Also Nominated: Malayka Rankin, Brevard; Izabella Delli-Colli, Pfeiffer.
