Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Mikkel Christensen, N.C. Wesleyan - The Oslo, Norway sophomore forward scored the game-winning goal in the team's lone contest last week, a 2-1 victory at Pfeiffer, the defending USA South regular season champions. Christensen scored in the 84th minute to help secure the win for the Battling Bishops. Men's Soccer Defender of the Week
Soren Deweer, Brevard - The Grand Baie, Mauritius freshman goalkeeper allowed just one goal in 180 minutes played with six total saves over two contests. In a 4-1 win over Covenant, Deweer stopped one of the two shots faced. In a 2-0 victory over USA South foe Mary Baldwin, Deweer notched the shutout by stopping five shots. Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Guilherme Barcelos, Brevard - The Osasco, Brazil graduate student forward, in his first year of collegiate soccer, scored three goals with one assist in a 2-0 week for the Tornados. In a 4-1 win at Covenant, Barcelos notched a hat trick with three goals, including the eventual game-winner in the 49th minute. In a 2-0 shutout at USA South rival Mary Baldwin, Barcelos assisted on an insurance goal in the 74th minute. Also Nominated: Jamie Davis, Greensboro; Riccardo Baisi, N.C. Maddy Loranger, Brevard - The Mebane, North Carolina freshman forward scored three times with one assist in a 2-0 week for the Tornados against USA South foes. In a 4-0 win over Salem, Loranger notched a hat trick of three goals, including the eventual game-winner to open the scoring. In a 1-0 victory over Methodist, Loranger assisted on the game-winning score in the 30th minute. Wesleyan (2-0) and at William Peace (5-0), the Knight defense allowed a total of just one shot on goal. Hovander posted week-match of 17 kills, six digs, five service aces, three blocks, and two assists. The win came over Johnson & Wales (N.C.) while the losses were to USA South foes Methodist and Salem. Smith posted week match-highs of 35 digs, four assists, four service aces, and two kills.
