Travis Younger, Christopher Newport
- The freshman second baseman from Chatham, Virginia
went 6-for-12 (.500) with eight RBI, two
runs scored, one double and two walks as the Captains posted a 6-0
record last week. In doubleheader sweep of USA South foe,
Greensboro, Younger only appeared in game-two, a 7-3
win, and was 1-for-2 with one run scored, one run batted
in and two walks. Younger did not play in In an 8-2 victory over
St. Mary's (MD), Younger recorded a hit in his only at bat of the
game. Finally, in a three-game sweep of USA South rival Methodist,
Younger was a combined 4-for-9 (.444) with seven RBI, one run

on the mound last week. In a 4-1 win over USA South foe Greensboro,
Scherer tossed seven shutout innings and allowed nine hits with no

Danielle Newbern, LaGrange - The
sophomore catcher/infielder from Gainesville, Georgia went 9-for-15
(.600) with 12 runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, one walk
and four stolen bases as the Panthers posted a 4-0 record last
week. In a doubleheader sweep of Wesleyan (Ga.), Newbern was a
combined 4-for-7 with six runs scored, five RBI, one home run, one
walk and two stolen bases. In a doubleheader sweep of Salem,
Newbern was a combined 5-for-8 with six runs scored, five RBI, two

The Cumming, Georgia junior earned a 2-0 record last week in two
appearances for the Lions. Head totaled 14 innings pitched and
allowed just one earned run on 12 hits with one walk and 12
strikeouts. In a 3-1 win over Covenant, Head tossed seven complete
innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits with one walk and
six strikeouts. In a 7-4 victory over USA South rival Maryville,
Head pitched seven complete innings and allowed four runs, only one
of which was earned, on eight hits with no walks and six

Week
Sydney Hewartson, Ferrum
- The Leesburg, Virginia sophomore attack tallied 22
points on ten goals and 12 assists as the Panthers posted a 3-0
record last week. In a 23-5 victory over Reinhardt, Hewartson
scored six goals with four assists and one caused turnover. In a
12-7 win over Berry, Hewartson did not tally a goal but did dish
out four assists. Finally, in an 18-5 victory over USA South foe
Meredith, Hewartson totaled four goals, four assists and one

Player of the Week
Carly Haraka, Piedmont -
The Cumming, Georgia freshman goalkeeper tallied 180 minutes in
goal with 21 saves, two groundballs and three wins in a 3-0 week
for the Lions. In an 18-4 win over Oglethorpe, Haraka stopped six
shots. In a 17-1 victory over Huntingdon, Haraka collected six
saves and one groundball. Finally, in a 14-3 win over Aurora,
Haraka made nine saves and grabbed one groundball. Also Nominated:

Men's Tennis Player of
the Week
Robert Kjellberg, N.C. Wesleyan
- The junior from Vetlanda, Sweden
collected a win at both number one singles and doubles over
opponents from USA South foe Christopher Newport in his only action
last week. He did not drop a single game in his singles win and
collected the doubles victory with partner Artsiom Prostak. Also

Women's Tennis Player
of the Week
Rachel Purser, Methodist - The
senior from Matthews, North Carolina was 2-0 at number-five singles
and 1-0 at number-three doubles last week. In singles play, Purser
collected wins over opponents from Virginia Wesleyan and Salisbury.
In doubles, Purser teamed with Emily Talley to defeat a team from

innings and allowed two unearned runs on four hits with two walks
and ten strikeouts. In a 7-4 victory over Methodist, Taylor pitched
seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits with no walks and

one run scored, one run batted in and one walk. In a doubleheader

The Matthews, North Carolina freshman midfielder totaled eight
points on five goals and three assists with 11 draw controls, nine

record last week. In an 18-4 win over Oglethorpe, Manns tallied one
goal, one assist, three groundballs, two draw controls and two
caused turnovers. In a 17-1 victory over Huntingdon, Manns totaled

Elizabeth Edwards, LaGrange - The
Griffin, Georgia freshman earned a 2-0 record at number-six singles
and a 1-1 mark at number-three doubles last week. In singles play,
Edwards collected wins over opponents from Emmanuel and Wesleyan
(Ga.). In doubles, Edwards teamed with Blake Alford to defeat a
team from Wesleyan (Ga.). Also Nominated: None.
