(FAYETTEVILLE, NC) - The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors
student-athletes for their collegiate achievements in service,
leadership, athletics and academics. The USA South Athletic
Conference's 2012 Woman of the Year and nominee for the NCAA award
is N.C. Wesleyan College senior volleyball player Mackenzie
Tingle.
Tingle concluded her collegiate career this past fall as
the starting setter on the Bishop volleyball team. She was a
four-time All-Conference performer earning first team honors three
times and third team accolades once. In 2008, Tingle was named USA
South Rookie of the Year and recently earned 2011-12 N.C. Wesleyan
Athlete of the Year honors. She finished her career ranked second
all-time in assists and is only one of two players to garner
All-Conference accolades on four occasions in her sport at N.C.
Wesleyan.
Off the court, Tingle has amassed a 3.52 GPA while majoring in
both Sociology and Psychology while minoring in Biology. She has
appeared on both the N.C. Wesleyan President's List and the USA
South All-Academic All-Conference Team each of her four years on
campus.
Tingle's service and leadership resume is a very impressive one.
She has committed approximately 750 hours to projects and
organizations both on the N.C. Wesleyan campus and within the city
of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Just a few examples of Tingle's
dedication include her multi-term Presidency of the N.C. Wesleyan
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), reading to children at
local elementary schools, volunteering at multiple non-profit
organizational fundraising activities and assisting with events
such as the American Red Cross Hero Campaign.
Upon graduation, Tingle plans to further her education by
attending graduate school.
This honoree's name and accolades will now be forwarded to the
NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee. The committee will
choose the top ten nominees in each division (I, II and III). From
among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will determine the
top three in each division. From those nine, the 2012 NCAA Woman of
the Year will be chosen.
Other student-athletes chosen as institutional Women of the Year
were Kristen Keith of Ferrum College, Melissa Gallaher of
Greensboro College, Candace Proffitt of Mary Baldwin College and
Amy Smith of Shenandoah University.
