(LaGRANGE, GA) - The 2018 USA South Men's Lacrosse Tournament has concluded at Callaway Stadium in LaGrange, Georgia as a part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival. Top-seeded Huntingdon captured the Conference's inaugural tournament championship by defeating third-seeded Methodist, 12-4.
Methodist jumped out to an early 2-1 lead only to see Huntingdon answer back with three straight goals to build a 4-2 lead heading into halftime. The Hawks extended their lead with the first three goals of the third quarter before Methodist scored with eight seconds remaining to make the score 7-3. Huntingdon put the game away by scoring five goals in the fourth quarter against just one for Methodist.
Huntingdon was led offensively by Miles Stading who had a game-high three goals while Zach Barnhill posted two goals and two assists. In goal, Matt Murphy collected nine saves for the Hawks. Methodist's Matt Layden scored twice to lead the Monarchs.
For his efforts during the tournament, Huntingdon's Murphy was named the event's Most Valuable Player as he allowed just nine total goals and stopped 21 shots during the two games.
