Piedmont Tennis' Metzger Named Academic All-America

AUSTIN, Texas – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) named Piedmont senior NATHAN METZGER to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Team on Tuesday. The senior from Auckland, New Zealand becomes the second men's tennis player for Piedmont to earn Academic All-America status as he took third team honors.

Metzger earned All-District honors alongside teammate HARRISON LABOLLITA in May. Metzger was one of nine men's tennis players across Division III to earn At-Large team honors.

Metzger earned first team all-conference honors in his senior season helping Piedmont to an 11-8 record in 2018. Metzger posted a six match win streak in singles play to end the season with a 14-4 record. He also earned Academic All-District honors in soccer in the fall of 2017.

Piedmont has now boasted a total of 11 Academic All-America honorees with the last coming earlier this month as JUSTIN GROOVER earned the honor in baseball.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. In addition, nominated student-athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's matches at their respective positions.
