USA South Women's Tennis Awards Announced

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for women's tennis. A total of 33 student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference teams. Meredith College's Puja Patel swept the individual awards, collecting Player and Rookie of the Year honors. Methodist University's Francie Barragan was named Coach of the Year. Also, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school.

All honors were determined by votes from the women's tennis coach at each institution.

Patel, a freshman from Snowhill, North Carolina becomes the third player in USA South Women's Tennis history to claim both individual Conference awards. Playing primarily at the number-one singles position throughout the season, Patel was undefeated against USA South opposition, posting a 7-0 record. Overall, she has an 11-7 record in singles action. In doubles play, Patel earned a 7-1 record during Conference play at the number-three position. For her efforts this season, Patel earned First Team All-Conference honors. Finally, Patel collected USA South Rookie of the Week accolades three times this season.

In her sixth season at the helm of Methodist, Barragan earned her fourth consecutive USA South Coach of the Year honor. This is the fifth such honor for Barragan during her time with the Monarchs. This spring, she has led Methodist to the program's 16th regular season championship as the Monarchs compiled an overall record of 21-1 and an unblemished USA South mark of 9-0. The regular season crown is Methodist's fourth consecutive and tenth in the last 11 years. The Monarchs enter the USA South tournament as the top-seed and the defending champions.
