USA South Football Awards Announced

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for football.  A total of 84 student-athletes have earned USA South All-Conference honors.  Methodist's Chris Roncketti is the Offensive Player of the Year, while Christopher Newport's Rob Rodriguez is the Player of the Year on the defensive side.  Greensboro's Torrey Lowe has been named the Offensive Rookie of the Year, while N.C. Wesleyan's Quinderra Spellman is the Defensive Rookie of the Year.  Ferrum head coach Dave Davis is the 2005 Coach of the Year. 

Roncketti, a senior quarterback from Hope Mills, N.C., led the USA South in passing, completing 141-of-241 passes for 2,234 yards with 15 touchdown passes.  He also gained 480 yards rushing on 82 carries with 14 rushing touchdowns.  He played an instrumental part in the Monarchs going 8-2 this season and sharing the Conference championship with Ferrum.

Rodriguez, a Virginia Beach, Va. junior defensive back, had six blocks kicks, broke up seven passes and had three interceptions for the Captains.  In 2005, he had 50 tackles and two and a half tackles for losses.  Rodriguez was a First Team All-Conference selection as a defensive back and a Second Team All-Conference selection as a return specialist this season.

Lowe, a freshman wide receiver from Southern Pine, N.C., had a dominant rookie year as  he was second in the Conference in all-purpose yards (156.0 per game).  He had 333 rushing yards, 756 receiving yards and 471 kick return yards.  This season he was a First-Team All-Conference selection as wide receiver. 

Spellman, a freshman defensive lineman from Elizabeth City, N.C., had 38 tackles for the Bishops in 2005.  He also had six tackles for losses and had one force fumble in his first year for the Bishops.  He was Second-Team All-Conference selection at defensive line this season.

Davis, led the Panthers to a 9-1 overall record and a 6-1 Conference record which earned Ferrum a share of the their third USA South Championship in five years.  The Panthers earned the USA South's automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA Division III Playoffs and will travel to Wesley on Saturday.
