In an effort to help worthy organizations during the spring semester, the USA South Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) developed, "Pennies for a Purpose", in 2008. This year's community service initiative, in its 13th year, began as the student-athletes returned from winter break and was to conclude on April 16th. However, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic and many institutions moving to off-campus learning, this season's program has ended. Therefore, due to the lack of many institutions being able to conduct upcoming fundraising campaigns, there shall be no competition champion named this year.
Despite the current unfortunate events the world is battling, USA South institutions still collected $15,715.20 during the shortened spring semester! These funds will be donated to organizations of each individual institution's desire. Over the lifetime of the "Pennies for a Purpose" program, USA South institutions have donated $116,373.23 to worthy causes.
This is the second community service program developed by the USA South Conference SAAC as the "Cans Across the Conference" food drive, which takes place during the fall semester surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday, was created in 2004. Through that campaign, USA South Institutions have donated a total of 575,168 items to their local communities.
