(MISENHEIMER , NC) - The 2023 USA South Men's Lacrosse tournament has come to a close on the campus of Pfeiffer University with the host, top-seed, Falcons taking the championship for the second time in their program's history with a 12-9 victory over second-seeded Southern Virginia. 

Southern Virginia put the pressure on the home team early by scoring three of the first four goals before Pfeiffer made it a one-score game after the first quarter. The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair as each team matched the other's scores which made the halftime score 5-4 in favor of the Knights. The third quarter was dominated by the Falcons as they scored all five of the period's goals to go up by four heading into the final stanza. After Southern Virginia scored the first two goals of the quarter to get to within two scores, Pfeiffer matched every one the remainder of the way, including a final tally with one second remaining which gave the Falcons the final three-goal victory. 

Pfeiffer was led offensively by Zach DeFazio who scored four times while J.P. Galloway contributed three goals and two assists for a game-high five points. Getting the offense the ball to begin with was Tournament Most Valuable Player Tucker Hill who was 15-23 on faceoffs with a game-high six ground balls. In goal, Nate Woodhill made nine saves for the Falcons. For Southern Virginia, Clay Haacke scored a team-high three goals, while Zak Sullivan assisted on a game-high three goals. Finally, Caleb Brodie made a game-high 11 stops in goal for the Knights.
