Meredith Takes Tenth Consecutive USA South Women's Lacrosse Tournament Title

(FAYETTEVILLE, NC) - The championship of the 2024 USA South Women's Lacrosse tournament has been decided on the campus of Methodist University. Second-seeded Meredith pulled away from the host, top-seeded Monarchs, 20-8, to earn the program's tenth consecutive tournament crown.

The first quarter saw Meredith goalie Madeline Horrell make eight saves and the Avenging Angel offense score four times to take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter. Methodist answered by scoring five of the next eight goals to pull within one score until Meredith tallied three consecutive goals to close the half. The Avenging Angels broke the game open in the third quarter, out-scoring the Monarchs 5-1, giving Meredith a 15-7 lead with 15 minutes remaining. The fourth quarter difference matched the third's with Meredith closing out the championship game with five goals to Methodist's one. 

Leading the way offensively for Meredith were Bailey Swails and Ava Spradley who each scored a game-high five goals. Reese Walker led in points with seven thanks to four goals and three assists. Kenzie Todd and Katherine Couch each grabbed three ground balls while Lauryn Turner caused a game-high three turnovers. In goal, Horrell stopped a game-high 16 shots. For Methodist, Kennedy Martin totaled three goals and one assist while Payton Jones collected a game-high five ground balls.
