Brown Named Meredith Head Golf Coach

RALEIGH, N.C. – Meredith College announces Heather Brown—former Director of Intercollegiate Golf and Head Women's Golf Coach at Appalachian State University—as the new Head Coach of the Avenging Angels golf program. A seasoned PGA professional and dynamic leader, Brown brings over three decades of coaching experience and a proven record of developing student-athletes on the course, in the classroom, and in life.

During her tenure at Appalachian State, Brown guided the women's golf program to record-breaking achievements, recruiting top national and international talent, mentoring over 30 Academic All-Americans, and coaching a conference champion and two USGA qualifiers. Her teams consistently posted the highest GPA in the athletics department and were nationally recognized for academic progress.

A proud alumna of Appalachian State, Brown was also a standout on the course as team captain and MVP during her playing career.

"We're excited to welcome Heather to Meredith," said Athletic Director Jackie Myers. "Her experience, teaching philosophy, and dedication to the holistic development of student-athletes are exactly what we value in our athletics program. She will be a tremendous asset to our campus and our golf team."

In addition to her collegiate coaching career, Brown has made a significant impact beyond the NCAA. Through her work with the Playground Golf Foundation, she introduced the game of golf to underserved youth, bringing life skills and core values to schools through safe, in-school programming. She also served as the Director of U.S. Operations and Communication Liaison for Future Planet, a global initiative that helped bridge relationships between Chinese athletes and U.S. institutions, creating recruitment pipelines and fostering cross-cultural understanding.

A Class A PGA Professional, Brown has coached more than 1,000 golfers in individual, clinic, and collegiate settings. Her personalized, results-driven teaching style focuses on building strong fundamentals, short game development, and translating practice into confident play on the course. She is a lead instructor with Bird Golf Academy, where she has worked with players of all ages and skill levels.

Coach Brown shared her enthusiasm about joining the Avenging Angels: "I would like to thank Dr. Sapp, Jackie Myers, Fiona Barkley, Jean Jackson, and the entire search committee for entrusting me with Meredith's golf program. I'm excited to begin mentoring and developing our current Avenging Angels while also recruiting new young women to help build and strengthen the program. I'm ready to get started right away and am confident that we can take Meredith Golf to new heights."

With a deep commitment to sport, service, and student success, Heather Brown is poised to lead Meredith Golf into a new chapter.
