USA South Athletes of the Week - September 8, 2025

  • Football Offensive Player of the Week
    Caleb Gallashaw, Belhaven - The Leesville, Louisiana senior running back scored three touchdowns in a 50-24 win over Millsaps last week. On the ground, Gallashaw rushed for 83 yards on 21 carries and scored twice. Additionally, Gallashaw caught two passes for 15 yards and a touchdown.     Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
    Dami'on Thompson, LaGrange - The Atlanta, Georgia freshman wide receiver scored caught four passes for 134 yards with one touchdown in a 36-14 win over Point last week. Thompson first career catch was a 77-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. Also Nominated: Julien Tabor, Belhaven; Zion Fauntleroy-McDaniel, Brevard; Crew Sage, Southern Virginia.

    Football Defensive Player of the Week
    Britton Tidwell, Southern Virginia - The Bountiful, Utah freshman linebacker totaled seven tackles, four of which were for a loss, took an interception back for a touchdown, and forced a fumble in a 27-6 win over Apprentice last week. Tidwell's four tackles-for-loss pushed the offense back 26 total yards while his interception came in the second quarter and was returned 37 yards to give the Knights a touchdown advantage. Also Nominated: Tre Chaffier, Belhaven; Robert Dorsey, Brevard; Jay Law, Greensboro; Matthew Moore, LaGrange; Omar Goodwin, Methodist.

    Football Special Teams Player of the Week
    Sincere McIntyre, Greensboro - The Charlotte, North Carolina freshman returner took the opening kickoff of the season back 95 yards to give the Pride an early lead in a 21-7 victory last week. McIntyre first collegiate touch of the football set the tone for the Greensboro effort. Also Nominated: Kyle Norris, Belhaven; .Landon Eaker, LaGrange; Braxtyn Green, N.C. Wesleyan; Alex Passey, Southern Virginia.

  • Men's Soccer Player of the Week
    Tom Roantree, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore forward from Maidstone, England scored twice as the Battling Bishops posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 1-0 loss to Emory, Roantree was held scoreless on one shot. In a 2-1 victory over Oglethorpe, Roantree scored both of his team's goals, including the game-winner in the 86th minute.     Men's Soccer Defender of the Week
    Seth Limbert, Pfeiffer - The Mooresville, North Carolina sophomore goalkeeper posted his first career shutout in the lone contest for the Falcons last week, a 3-0 win over Averett. Limbert stopped all six shots on net, leading to the clean sheet. Also Nominated: Tucker Speak, Mary Baldwin; Trey Gohr, Methodist; Ayden Miller, William Peace; Joel McGinnes, N.C. Wesleyan; Alvaro Hermosa, Greensboro.

    Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
    Ibra Ndiaye, William Peace - The freshman forward from Raleigh, North Carolina scored the only goal of the week in the team's lone contest last week, a 1-0 win over Randolph. Ndiaye notched the eventual game-winning score in the 66th minute. Also Nominated: Jade Diane, Greensboro; Tate Hickman, Southern Virginia; Felix Akselsen, N.C. Wesleyan.

  • Women's Soccer Player of the Week
    Darilyn Nieto, Salem - The Greensboro, North Carolina senior forward scored seven goals as the Spirits posted a 1-0-2 record last week. In a 3-3 tie with Averett, Nieto scored the team's first goal of the contest. In a 7-0 victory over Wesleyan, Nieto scored five times with four coming in the first half, all within 20 minutes. Finally, in a 2-2 draw with Agnes Scott, Nieto tied the game with a goal in the 72nd minute. Also Nominated: Mikayla Zvekan, Brevard; Kendall Kamm, Greensboro; Mackenzie Shores, Mary Baldwin.

    Women's Soccer Defender of the Week
    Amelia Cross, Mary Baldwin - The Chesapeake, Virginia sophomore goalkeeper posted two shutouts as the Fighting Squirrels posted a 2-0 record last week with Cross playing all 180 minutes and making nine total saves. In a 1-0 win over Randolph, Cross stopped six shots while making three saves in a 4-0 victory over Regent.     Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
    Kendall Kamm, Greensboro - The Casselberry, Florida freshman forward scored twice with one assist as the Pride posted a 1-0-1 record last week. After a scoreless draw with Bob Jones, Kamm scored twice, including the eventual game-winning goal, with one assist in a 4-1 victory over Averett. Also Nominated: Molly Ludwig, Mary Baldwin; Pilar Neumann, Salem; Kate Floyd, Brevard; Delin Peterson, Southern Virginia.

  • Volleyball Player of the Week
    Savannah Hovander, Methodist - The junior middle blocker from Greensboro, North Carolina averaged 3.20 kills, with a .532 hitting percentage, and 1.20 digs per set as the Monarchs posted a 3-1 record last week with wins over Hollins, Randolph, and Carolina University, coupled with a loss to Roanoke. Hovander posted week match-highs of 15 kills, five blocks (three times), four digs, two assists, and two service aces. Also Nominated: Madison Tate, Pfeiffer; Maegan Brylski, William Peace; Caitlyn Russell, Meredith; Aubrey Packer, Southern Virginia; Izzy Boulay, Brevard; Sabrina Birts, Mary Baldwin; Aspen Bradley, Salem.

    Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
    Madison Bozarth, Salem - The junior libero from Greensboro, North Carolina averaged 4.79 digs and 1.00 assists per set as the Spirits posted a 4-0 record last week with wins over Randolph, Carolina University, Roanoke, and Hollins. Bozarth had week match-highs of 26 digs, six assists, and four service aces (twice). Also Nominated: Gracie Payne, William Peace; Ryann Vail, Southern Virginia; Jadyn Smith, N.C. Wesleyan; Mary Miller, Methodist; Alexa Ammerman, Mary Baldwin.

    Volleyball Rookie of the Week
    Ashley Hinton, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman outside hitter from Garner, North Carolina averaged 3.21 kills and 2.58 digs per set as the Battling Bishops posted a 2-2 record last week with wins over Randolph and Hollins coupled with losses to Roanoke and Carolina University. Hinton posted three double-doubles to go along with week match-highs of 19 kills, 16 digs, two service aces (twice), one assist (twice), and one block (twice). Also Nominated: Addison Johnson, Methodist; Caitlin Bailey, William Peace; Taylor Cook, Salem; Abigail Kelly, Brevard; Peyton Hall, Mary Baldwin; Ariyan Ford, Pfeiffer; Talia Quinn, Southern Virginia.
