's "50 Years in 50 Weeks" - 1965-66

(FAYETTEVILLE, NC) - The 2013-14 season serves as the 50th for the USA South Athletic Conference. In an effort to relive 50 Years of League memories, the USA South has produced "50 Years in 50 Weeks", a weekly chronicle of some of the great moments in Conference history.

1965 - 1966

  • UNC–Charlotte captures its third consecutive regular season bowling championship while St. Andrews takes the tournament crown.

  • Methodist wins its first men’s cross country championship.

  • Lynchburg’s Wayne Proffitt scores 51 points, makes 18 field goals, attempts 40 field goals and makes 15 free throws versus Methodist in a Men’s Basketball Tournament game, all of which are records that still stand today. Proffitt also makes 28 free throws during the tournament, a mark which is still tops today. He also earned the first of his back-to-back tournament MVP honors during the event.
