MEN'S BASKETBALL

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Patjo Twagirayezu, Covenant - The junior forward from Kigali, Rwanda scored 24 points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out three assists without a turnover and collected three steals in a 68-65 victory over Birmingham Southern, a team receiving votes in the preseason D3hoops.com national poll, in the Scots' only contest last week. In the closing seconds of the game, Twagirayezu stole the ball and converted it into a layup to seal the victory. Also Nominated: Chris Braswell, N.C. Wesleyan; Chase England, Piedmont; Accheaus Fields, Averett; Josh Dudley, Ferrum; Donavan Griffith, Greensboro; Colt Nokes, Maryville; Chris Thomas, William Peace; Justyn Olson, LaGrange.

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Darus Maddox, Greensboro - The Lusby, Maryland freshman guard averaged 13.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as the Pride posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 73-64 victory over Randolph, Maddox totaled 13 points, six rebounds and one assist. In a 91-84 loss to St. Mary's, Maddox contributed 13 points, three rebounds and one steal. Also Nominated: Elijah Alston, Piedmont; Accheaus Fields, Averett; Zack Allen, Covenant; Jay Hicks, William Peace; Malcolm Walker, Maryville.

 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Zarkia Mattox, Ferrum - The Rocky Mount, Virginia junior guard averaged 18.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game as the Panthers posted a 1-2 record last week. In a 65-63 loss to Virginia Wesleyan, Mattox notched a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds while adding six assists. In a 65-44 loss at Transylvania, Mattox totaled 13 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Finally, in a 73-55 victory over Sewanee, Mattox tallied a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds to go with four assists and two steals. For her efforts at the Holley Wealth Advisory Group of Hilliard Lyons Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by Transylvania, Mattox was named to the All-Tournament team. Also Nominated: Madison Maples, Maryville; Brianna Barrett, Piedmont; Kechae Parker, N.C. Wesleyan; Aleigha Williams, Covenant.

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Makayla Ray, William Peace - The Asheville, North Carolina freshman forward scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds, collected three steals and dished out two assists without a turnover in a 69-63 victory over Salem in the team's only action last week. Also Nominated: Jazmine Lawrence, Piedmont; Libby Gardner, Maryville; Aleksandreja Kulits, Covenant.
