MEN'S BASKETBALL

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
James Contreras Jr., Averett - The senior guard from Virginia Beach, Virginia averaged 33.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists per game as the Cougars posted a 1-1 record last week versus USA South members. In a 109-76 loss to unbeaten Pfeiffer, Contreras totaled a 25 points, four rebounds and three steals. In a 103-98 overtime win over Covenant, Contreras set a new single-game program record by scoring 42 points. He also set a single-game Averett record with 19 made free throws (19-20), two of which came with 3.7 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. Contreras also contributed four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the victory. Also Nominated: Davion Ayabarreno, Methodist; Alex Bonner, LaGrange; Chris Braswell, N.C. Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Montre' Cash, Averett - The freshman guard from Rocky Mount, North Carolina averaged 11.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as the Cougars posted a 1-1 record last week versus USA South members. In a 109-76 loss to unbeaten Pfeiffer, Cash totaled 12 points, five rebounds and three assists. In a 103-98 overtime win over Covenant, Cash tallied 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal. Also Nominated: Lincoln Anderson, LaGrange; Garren Dearman, Methodist; Damon McDowell, N.C. Wesleyan; Josh Randolph, Piedmont.

 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Garis Grant, Agnes Scott - The sophomore forward from Charleston, South Carolina averaged a double-double of 18.5 points and 12.0 rebounds to go along with 4.0 blocks per game as the Scotties posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 51-45 win over USA South foe Wesleyan, Grant notched a double-double of 19 points and 19 rebounds to go along with six blocks and one assist. In a 77-37 loss to Brenau, Grant posted 18 points, five rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Kimberly Schuh, Meredith - The freshman forward from Apex, North Carolina averaged 16.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as the Avenging Angels posted a 1-2 record versus USA South competition last week. In a 66-53 loss to Ferrum, Schuh totaled 18 points, six rebounds and four assists. In a 72-59 loss to N.C. Wesleyan, Schuh contributed 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Finally, in a 76-64 victory over Methodist, Schuh scored 15 points with six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.
