MEN'S GOLF

Men's Golfer of the Week
Drew Mathers, Huntingdon - The senior from Mobile, Alabama placed second out of 75 golfers at the Gordin Classic in Columbus, Ohio last week by shooting a nine-under par 207. The tournament featured the top-eight ranked teams in Division III and 12 total nationally ranked programs. In the three-round event, Mathers opened with an eight-under par 64, which broke his own program NCAA-era record for strokes under par for a single round. He followed with a four-under par 68 and finished with a three-over par 75. Mathers helped the Hawks to a second place team finish. Also Nominated: Dan Shepherd, Methodist; Matthew Leemann, Piedmont.

Men's Golf Rookie of the Week
Fred Roberts, Piedmont - The freshman from Richmond Hill, Georgia placed tied for 41st out of 75 golfers at the Gordin Classic in Columbus, Ohio last week by shooting a six-over par 222. The tournament featured the top-eight ranked teams in Division III and 12 total nationally ranked programs. In the three-round event, Roberts opened with a four-over par 76, followed by a one-under par 71 and finished with a three-over par 75 to help the Lions to ninth place team finish. The Lions set a new single-round program record with a 285 in round number two. Also Nominated: None.

 

WOMEN'S GOLF

Co-Women's Golfers of the Week
Morgan Bowen, Methodist - The junior from Mason, Ohio placed tied for 6th out of 70 golfers at the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate last week by shooting a five-over par 149. In the two-round event, Bowen opened with a four-over par 76 and finished with a one-over par 73 to help the Monarchs second place team finish.

Paige Church, Methodist - The senior from Newland, North Carolina placed tied for 6th out of 70 golfers at the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate last week by shooting a five-over par 149. In the two-round event, Church opened with a two-over par 74 and finished with a three-over par 75 to help the Monarchs second place team finish.

Also Nominated: Theodora Scott, Pfeiffer; Debra Ann Burdeshaw, Huntingdon; Jordan Abbott, Piedmont.

Women's Golf Rookie of the Week
Emma Cox, Huntingdon - The freshman from Dothan, Alabama placed tied for 42nd out of 70 golfers at the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate last week by shooting a 23-over par 167. In the two-round event, Cox opened with a 13-over par 85 and finished with a ten-over par 82 to help the Hawks to a ninth place team finish. Also Nominated: Theodora Scott, Pfeiffer.
