MEN'S GOLF

Men's Golfer of the Week
Drew Mathers, Huntingdon - The senior from Mobile, Alabama placed first out of 89 golfers at the Division III National Preview in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida last week by shooting a six-under par 210. The tournament featured 11 of the top-12 nationally ranked Division III teams. In the three-round event, Mathers opened with a two-under par 70, followed with a two-over par 74 and finished with a six-under par 66 which tied the program NCAA-era record for strokes under par in a single round. Mathers helped the Hawks to a third place team finish. Also Nominated: Connor Brown, Greensboro; Matthew Leemann, Piedmont; Frankie Schmitt, N.C. Wesleyan; Jorgen Buskbjerg, Averett; Zane Brownrigg, Methodist.

Men's Golf Rookie of the Week
Elias Haavisto, Averett - The freshman from Kotka, Finland placed tied for ninth out of 50 golfers at the Barton College Cutter Creek Invitational in Snow Hill, North Carolina by shooting a four-over par 148. In the two-round event, Haavisto opened with a one-over par 73 and finished with a three-over par 75 to help the Cougars to second place team finish. Also Nominated: Fred Roberts, Piedmont.

 

WOMEN'S GOLF

Women's Golfer of the Week
Jordan Abbott, Piedmont - The senior from Marietta, Georgia placed tied for tenth out of 39 golfers at the Rhodes Classic in Memphis, Tennessee by shooting a nine-over par 153. In the two-round event, Abbott opened with a two-over par 74 and finished with a seven-over par 79 to help the Lions to a fourth place team finish. Also Nominated: Paige Church, Methodist.

Women's Golf Rookie of the Week
Carson Weiner, Piedmont - The freshman from Buford, Georgia placed 27th out of 39 golfers at the Rhodes Classic in Memphis, Tennessee by shooting a 33-over par 177. In the two-round event, Weiner opened with a 13-over par 85 and finished with a 20-over par 92 to help the Lions to a fourth place team finish. Also Nominated: None.
