USA South Athletes of the Week - March 16, 2020

BASEBALL

Baseball Player of the Week
Andrew Brock, Covenant - The sophomore infielder from Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia set new single-game program records with seven RBI and four doubles in a 26-2, seven-inning, victory over Iowa Wesleyan in the Scots' only game last week. In addition, Brock's four doubles tied a single-game USA South record as he was 4-for-5 (.800) with a .833 on-base percentage and a 1.600 slugging percentage to go along with three runs scored and one walk. Also Nominated: Zack DeCarlo, Averett; Connor Jelley, Piedmont; Holden Lanier, Brevard; Bryce Marsh, Pfeiffer; Jackson Murray, N.C. Baseball Pitcher of the Week
John Crawford, Huntingdon - The senior from Hoover, Alabama earned a victory in a 6-3 win over Hampden-Sydney in his only appearance on the mound last week for the Hawks. Crawford tossed the first six innings and allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, on six hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. Also Nominated: Matt Alter, Piedmont; Braxton Eades, Averett; Chandler Padgett, N.C. Wesleyan; Reid Ziomek, Brevard.

Baseball Rookie of the Week
Hunter Ward, William Peace - The freshman infielder from Clayton, North Carolina went a combined 4-for-6 (.667) with a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.500 slugging percentage to go along with five RBI, three runs scored, three doubles, one triple, two walks and two stolen bases as the Pacers swept Dean in a two-game series last week. Also Nominated: Zach Allison, Brevard; Jake Brown, Pfeiffer; Kenny Mills, Covenant; James Whitmer, Piedmont; Kyle Wilson, Averett.

Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Braxton Eades, Averett - The freshman from Hurt, Virginia earned a victory against Guilford (5-0) in his only appearance on the mound last week for the Cougars. Eades tossed the first six innings and did not allow a run on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Also Nominated: Matt Alter, Piedmont; Chandler Padgett, N.C. Wesleyan; Nick Pettit, Covenant; Reid Ziomek, Brevard.

 

SOFTBALL

Softball Player of the Week
Kaitlyn Aherron, Averett - The senior infielder from Alton, Virginia was a combined 6-for-13 (.462) with a .500 on-base percentage and a 1.231 slugging percentage to go along with eight RBI, eight runs scored, one double, three home runs and two walks as the Cougars posted a 4-0 record last week. In a doubleheader sweep of USA South foe Methodist, Aherron was a combined 4-for-7 with six RBI, four runs scored and two home runs. In a doubleheader sweep of Roanoke, Aherron was a combined 2-for-6 with four runs scored, two RBI, one double, one home run and two walks. Also Nominated: Beth Braswell, N.C. Wesleyan; McKenzie Brunel, LaGrange; Paige Love, Pfeiffer; Bryce Smith, Meredith; Emily White, Brevard.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Jordan Kielson, Brevard - The freshman from Canton, North Carolina earned a 3-0 record last week with a 0.78 ERA for in three appearances, all starts, for the Tornados. In 18.0 total innings pitched, Kielson allowed two earned runs on eight hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts. Ogle earned wins over Iowa Wesleyan, Penn St.-Harrisburg and Penn College. Also Nominated: Kaitlyn Aherron, Averett; Beth Braswell, N.C. Wesleyan; Caiti Mickles, Pfeiffer; Payton Thomas, LaGrange.

Softball Rookie of the Week
Hailey Myers, Pfeiffer - The freshman second baseman from Winston-Salem, North Carolina went a combined 9-for-15 (.600) with a .625 on-base percentage and a .733 slugging percentage in a 4-0 week for the Falcons against FDU-Florham. Myers also added seven runs scored, three RBI, two doubles, one walk and six stolen bases. Also Nominated: Brie Caldwell, Meredith; Abbey Gardner, LaGrange; Beth Hyatt, Brevard; Karsin Lee, Averett.

Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week

MEN'S LACROSSE

Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Brady Jenks, Piedmont - The Peachtree City, Georgia senior attackman scored four goals with one assist in a 21-5 win over Emmanuel in the Lions' only contest last week. With the five points, Jenks set a new career program record. He also added two ground balls and one caused turnover in the victory. Also Nominated: Jared Nelson, Pfeiffer.

Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Zach Czulada, Piedmont - The Boca Raton, Florida senior goalkeeper helped the Lions to a 21-5 win over Emmanuel in the team's only contest last week. In 45 minutes played, Czulada allowed four goals and made 12 saves with seven ground balls. Also Nominated: None.

Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Brandon Miller, Huntingdon - The Tyler, Texas freshman midfielder scored three goals and added two ground balls in a 17-8 loss to Carthage in the Hawks' only contest last week. Also Nominated: Quinn Becraft, Pfeiffer; Chris Pennenbacker, Piedmont.

 

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Kaley Hyatt, Pfeiffer - The St. Cloud, Florida senior midfielder accumulated four points on two goals and two assists in an 11-9 win over USA South foe Averett in the team's only contest last week. Hyatt also added three caused turnovers and two ground balls in the victory. Also Nominated: Ali Cucinotta, N.C. Wesleyan; Elizabeth Peasley, Averett; Rena Pillow, Methodist.

Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Amber Briggs, Pfeiffer - The Pasadena, Maryland sophomore goalkeeper helped the Falcons to an 11-9 win over USA South foe Averett in the team's only contest last week. Briggs made 12 saves and gathered two ground balls in the victory. Also Nominated: Emily Eby, Averett; Brescia Reynolds, N.C. Wesleyan.

Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Taylor Roberts-Dishon, Averett - The Edgemore, Maryland freshman defender caused a game-high four turnovers in an 11-9 loss to USA South foe Pfeiffer in the team's only contest last week. Roberts-Dishon also collected three ground balls in the defeat. Also Nominated: None.
