USA South Athletes of the Week - Jan. 23, 2023

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Timothy Pettiford, William Peace - The junior forward from Garner, North Carolina averaged a double-double of 20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds to go along with 2.0 assists per game as the Pacers posted a 2-0 record last week against USA South opposition. In a 68-62 win at Methodist, Pettiford notched a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four assists and one block. In an 82-78 victory at Brevard, Pettiford tied his season-high in points with 25 points while also grabbing seven rebounds and one steal. Also Nominated: Rashamel Butler, Pfeiffer; Khalid Chavis-Hinds, N.C. Wesleyan; Matthew Brown, Greensboro; Quincy Carter, Brevard. 

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Koa Baker, Southern Virginia - The freshman guard from Eagle Mountain, Utah averaged a double-double of 13.0 points and 12.0 rebounds to go along with 3.0 steals and 2.5 assists per game as the Knights posted a 1-1 record last week against USA South foes. In a 66-60 loss to Mary Baldwin, Baker scored 15 points with nine rebounds, two steals, and one assist. In a 78-58 win over Methodist, Baker notched a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to go along with four assists and four steals. Baker is currently tied for tenth in Division III with 11 double-doubles this season. Also Nominated: Ty Black, Pfeiffer; Kavan Horton, Brevard.

 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Kate Perko, Meredith - The Fayetteville, North Carolina senior forward averaged a double-double of 28.0 points and 17.5 rebounds, to go along with 3.5 assists, 2.5 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game as the Avenging Angels posted a 1-1 record last week against USA South competition. In a 70-61 win over Salem, Perko notched the first of two double-doubles on the week with 32 points and 22 rebounds to go along with four assists, four blocks, and one steal. In a 59-55 loss to Southern Virginia, Perko scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds with three assists, two steals, and one block. Perko is currently tied for the Division III lead with 15 double-doubles this season. Also Nominated: Tanaesha Ellison, Pfeiffer; Kayrisma Harrison, N.C. Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Makayla Street, Brevard - The Rock Hill, South Carolina freshman guard averaged 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game as the Tornados posted a 2-0 record last week. In a 75-62 win over Warren Wilson, Street scored 12 points with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. In a 72-62 victory over USA South for Pfeiffer, Street notched a double-double of 18 points and ten rebounds with one assist and one steal. Also Nominated: Hannah Isley, Pfeiffer; Kaniya Cromartie, N.C. Wesleyan; Abigail Snyder, Southern Virginia.
