N.C. Wesleyan's Wooten Named National Athlete of the Week

Rocky Mount, NC - N.C. Wesleyan is proud to announce that sophomore track standout Kamiyah Wooten has been named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week for her historic performance at the Liberty Kickoff. This prestigious honor is the first in Wooten's career and is the only time a Wesleyan athlete has earned the honor.

A native of Farmville, North Carolina, Wooten made history at the Liberty Kickoff by setting a new NCAA Division III record in the 300 meters. She completed the race in a blazing 39.15 seconds, making her just the third woman in Division III history to break the 40-second barrier in this event. Her record-breaking run solidified herself as a serious contender for the national title in the event.

In addition to her outstanding performance in the 300 meters, Wooten also impressed in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 7.81 seconds in the prelims.
